The Big Pink Push

The iconic Pink Cadillac that Mary Kay awards their sales directors is the ultimate symbol of success. Mary Kay offers american-made cars: Cadillac-SRX, Cadillac-CTS, Chevy Equinox, Toyota Camry, Chevy Cruze, and a Ford Mustang, as a reward for different levels of sales volume and team building. But how did this come about? Mary Kay began providing pink cars as incentive to their top independent Sales Directors in 1969. The car’s unique hue was chosen to reflect Mary Kay’s palette colors. The bright pink colored cars were replaced with a more pearlized tone in 1998. In September, 100 pink Cadillacs assembled near the Dallas headquarters to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mary Kay Inc.

Many new consultants ask themselves, “How do I achieve this iconic car?” For directors, they must sell *$48,000 in a quarter then continue to earn a total *$96,000 for two consecutive quarters. This qualifies the director to either accept a cash reward or a 2 year lease of the pink car. A director must also maintain this level of sales to keep their Cadillac.

Are you on your way to achieving a pink Cadillac? Many of UnitWise users have achieved the Pink Cadillac status (some, many times over). So, how did they achieve this goal? We interviewed Cleta Colson, Future Executive Senior Sales Director, who gave future Cadillac owners some great advice:

UW: Why did you begin to sell for Mary Kay?
CC:  I signed up right after college to make an extra $50 a month.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy my new business and how fun and easy it would be to make money.  After my first week in sales of $400 and making more than my 40 hour week job paycheck in only 3 parties, I was hooked for life!!!

UW: For how long have you been with MK?
CC: I have been in for 28 years and a Sales Director for almost 25 years.

UW: When did you receive your first pink Cadillac?
CC: I won my first Cadillac in 1992, my goal was to win one before I was 30 years old.  I made it with one month to spare!

UW: How did you achieve the required sales requirement?
CC: I set a goal for the car and actually did a huge Goal poster shared with another Director in the shape of a pink car with refrigerator boxes.  Above it we wrote THE BIG PINK PUSH. We both tracked our production each month moving a car along a track that went from the front of the car to the back.  It was fun going for it together! She (Debra Bishop) and I held ourselves accountable by keeping each other encouraged.  Working with my unit was so exciting as we got closer and closer. We did start out with Cadillac production ($16,000 wholesale) most people don't.  You work up to it and increase monthly.  I personally recruited 6 qualified to help with the bonus $600 you get for each and made sure I brought guests to my own meetings and helped my consultants move up! We debuted a Sales Director at the same time who won her first car... And that girl was my sister!!  Exciting times for sure.  The victory was sweet as Debra and I picked up our first Cadillacs and both of our offspring picked up their first car the same day!! It's worth the PINK push!!!  Now after 10 Pink Cadillacs I can't think of driving anything else.

UW: What advice would you give to new consultants?
CC: To not wait to be great! Find those first 3 power partners (team members) your first week!  It's more fun to do it with a friend! Also to do your Power Start- 30 faces in 30 days- to allow yourself time to get your skills down. DIQ DIQ Do It Quick!!!!  Also, take advantage of your Sales Director and her skills by learning and listening to her advice. Bring friends with you to every event and let your director and sister consultants help you build your team!  Never give up and keep a positive attitude no matter what!!  Welcome to a company who's main goal is to help YOU be successful!! Managing your Unit WAS information

 
 
It is so exciting to have a team of determined women working with you toward a common goal, but how do you know when you team is on track? UnitWise offers you the tools to manage your Weekly Accomplishments Sheet (WAS) and keep your unit on the right track.


First of all make sure that your account is linked to Intouch, by going to Settings>Preferences>MK Credentials.


When you link your Intouch account to UnitWise you can schedule the basic Intouch WAS reports, such as Unit Anniversaries and Birthdays, Circle of Achievements, Unit Production details etc. Once Scheduled your Intouch WAS reports will be imported directly into your UnitWise account Nightly or Weekly (Depending on the Report).
 





These reports can be exported to Excel or Printed as needed.



UnitWise Director Complete Package offers anytime Sync so you can update your consultant’s WAS info whenever you wish. This eliminates the need of having your busy consultants enter their WAS on Intouch by Saturday Night.






You can also view your entire Unit activity by clicking the Quick Glance option. Quick Glance allows you to easily find your top performers for the week.




You have the ability to export your WAS information as an Excel, PDF or CSV file to create other reports and spreadsheets such as Monthly and Yearly totals.

Managing Weekly Accomplishments in UnitWise

 

Part of your MK business routine is keeping track of you Weekly accomplishments.It is best to enter your accomplishments into your Intouch account by Saturday evening this is essential in providing your director with a consistent activity report. UnitWise can easily help you track and organize your weekly accomplishments so you know exactly where your business stands & what new goals can be set for the upcoming weeks.


In order to simplify the data entry process, add your default WAS (Weekly Accomplishments Sheet) values under Settings>Preferences>General; that way when you add Sales Receipt information from any Invoice, the data will be automatically entered into you weekly accomplishments.


Add more details to your WAS from every Invoice or Sales receipt by first- choosing the Sale Type: Re-Order, Facial, Class, On-the-Go etc. Then add more information (Time spent, Number of calls, Interviews, Recruits etc) by selecting - Add Accomplishments.



Any time you need to glance at your Accomplishments, go to - My Team (My unit for the Director complete Package)>Weekly Accomplishments.


To view your sales for a particular party - click on the Arrow to the right of the Customer name. Every accomplishment recorded can be adjusted as needed. Listed at the bottom of your WAS will be your Weekly and Yearly totals.




By clicking - Next - in the bottom right corner, you will be able to view a Weekly Activity Recap & check your totals before adding Wholesale Order information for Section 1 and Section 2.


Set you your next week’s goal by clicking Next in the bottom right corner! Aim higher!




You can view your new Team Members by selecting Next.


From the Earnings Tab you can view the sales amount for the week.



If you click on the Summary tab you have the option to email your report to your Director. You may also click on Print WAS if you are planning to enter your accomplishments into Intouch Instead.



Please note that UnitWise values your privacy, no one but yourself or your designated virtual assistant can see your Weekly accomplishments in UnitWise.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Unfortunately, the extensive array of holiday delights can cause post-holiday remorse. By implementing a few simple tips you can stay healthy through the holiday season.


Tip #1. Eat a balanced breakfast, instead of skipping your morning meal to save room for dinner. You may end up overeating in the late afternoon and your energy level will also be very low if you skip meals. 

Tip #2. Don't worry about losing weight. Just focus on maintaining your current weight until January. With all the rich homemade food and seasonal candy it is common to overindulge. Dieting in this environment can lead to misery. So forgive yourself for that extra cookie, and spread some holiday cheer.        
                         
Tip #3. You will eat a lot less if you use a smaller plate. Avoid overindulging by sampling smaller portions on a smaller plate. You will eat less and not waste any of the delicious holiday delights.

Tip#4. To lower your chances of becoming sick, make sure you get plenty of Vitamin C to help boost your immune system. Be sure to wash your hands frequently to limit the transfer of bacteria when coming into contact with food & holiday guests. No one wants to spend the holidays sneezing and coughing.

Tip#5.     Moisturize with Mary Kay Skin Care! This time of year is when added moisture is most needed due to winter weather. Cold air & bitter winds lack humidity and dry up natural oils in your skin, causing it to lose moisture.This leads to rough cracked skin that can feel tight & uncomfortable,not to mention making your skin look dull and dry. 

Tip#6. Take a Vitamin D supplement. With all the wet, dreary, winter weather few are adventurous enough to stay outside for long. Most people become vitamin D deficient in the winter time due to less exposure to the sun. * Vitamin D is essential for the formation, growth, and repair of bones and for normal calcium absorption and immune function. Vitamin D also boosts metabolism functions helping you maintain and lose weight.

Tip#7. Prevent stress by shopping ahead of time. A frenzied trip to the department store on Christmas Eve can cause heightened stress levels, which can lead to lower cognitive function, emotional instability & physical distress.

Tip#8. For those days when you simply cannot get to the gym, try to be as active as possible. If you go shopping, park at the end of the lot. Also take the stairs instead of escalators or elevators. 

Tip#9. Keep your current bedtime. When on a break from work or school, it can be easy to stay up later since you can sleep in the next day. When you don’t get enough sleep your mental and physical health is at risk.  Avoid disrupting your sleep cycle by waking up at your regular time. 

Tip#10. Drink responsibly, this applies to caffeinated beverages as well as alcohol. A special trip to get a latte ***** may seem like a good idea, but it can actually lead to an energy crash and dehydration (not to mention extra calories). For adult beverages, drink in moderation and alternate with water and food.

Party Tracking

By following a few simple steps, you will be able to keep a running record of every appointment & party sales with our Party Tracking feature.



Of course everything starts with a phone call, as you speak to your Lead or your Customer, click on icon “A” to make an appointment:

 


 

Then fill in the details, making sure that the hostess and the party name are recorded. You may also add reminders and invitees.




All set! Enjoy holding your party appointment and record the sales generated at this party.

In the first invoice from the party you can record all the main accomplishments, be sure to indicate Party name and the Hostess Name in the accomplishments field:




Later, as you enter other sales from this party;  just enter accomplishments associated with particular ticket only.



In order to see the sales generated by your party, you can use the Party Sales report: Home>Reports>Sales>Party Sales.

To meet that guarantee, sometimes products need to be returned & replaced, but how do you process your return orders? Don’t worry UnitWise has the answer! Follow these step-by-step instructions for hassle-free Product Returns Processing.


First, create an invoice for your Customer indicating this product as Return to MK. This will create a credit on the Customer account that can be used for a replacement product or future purchases. View our helpful Credits & Refunds video for more information.



As the Return Invoice is saved you can proceed to Inventory tab>Replacements. You will see that the product is now listed there. You can enter the Day Code and the name of the products you are getting back in return from MK, then click Save and Create Purchase Order.



Please, keep in mind that this process is for tracking purposes in UnitWise only, you still need to log in to Intouch and process the replacement order in Intouch. To help you place your replacement order on Intouch you may refer to and print the Worksheet: Replacements>View History>Print Worksheet.

As the Replacement is saved the new Purchase Order will be created, you can find it by going to Inventory tab>Order from MK. When the order has arrived you may process it as “Received” in UnitWise by Opening the order>Receive Products>Receive all and Save. This way your inventory is updated in your UnitWise account.

The time is finally here & the Year-End-Tax Alarm about to sound!
Here are few tips to help you be fully prepared for your Year-End-Taxes using UnitWise:
  • Update your trip logs to record your mileage used throughout the year for your business : Accounts>Trip Logs> Add Trip Log. This can be tracked from UWnow.com or our Ipad & Android tablet apps.
  • Keep track of all your personal use, demo, charity & expired products, Click here to see how.
  • Remember to count and reconcile your inventory just before the end of the year or before you record your first sale of the new year. Reconciling your inventory will allow you to correct any discrepancies and it will also give you an accurate inventory on hand value for your taxes . You can use the Inventory by Category Report in UnitWise to get an easy reference list. If any discrepancies are found, you can refer to Inventory Audit Trail Report to find the history of a particular product in your inventory. Later, you can update quantities quickly with the Inventory Bulk Edit feature.
  • Gather other important receipts for your business expenses, double check that they have been entered in UnitWise with the Profit and Loss Details Report (Home>Reports>Year End Tax report>Profit and Loss details). If any expenses need to be entered, just go to Accounts>Expenses>Add Expense or Bulk Add Expense.

After that you can go to Home >Reports and run all reports in the Year End/Tax section for the period of your fiscal year. For more information, view our Year-End/Tax Reports Video
Your totals for Personal Use/Demo/Donations etc can be used as write offs for your taxes. For detailed information on running reports for personal use, demos, donations,etc please view this video

Here are the steps on how you can do it:

1) Log into your Facebook account and go to this URL:

2) Get the Facebook Embed Code and include it in the Change Html section as shown below:









3) Go to UnitWise: Social Media>My Website>Edit Site and open the Layout Settings> Change Html and insert the fb code just below the unitwise_sidebar div and add a new div with class =”unitwise_sidebar_fb” as shown below and this should enclose both the unitwise_sidebar and fb code divs. Click “Update & Apply Html to Public Site”






3) Then open the Layout Settings -> Change Style and search for unitwise_sidebar

and append , .unitwise_sidebar_fb to it and click “Update & Apply Style to Public site”.

Take Control of your Mary Kay Inventory

Having the right amount of Products on your shelf is key to growing your business, you just don’t want to be overwhelmed with overflowing cabinets, baskets, and drawers. We have found some great tips to keep your customers shopping bags full without letting your inventory take over your house or pocket book.

1. Choose your storage location carefully. Is your MK inventory space in a secure, child-proof, temperature-controlled location? It’s best to put your products in a low-traffic area, this way there is less chance that anyone except for you (and maybe your assistant) will move or rearrange your products. Also keep your MK related essentials relatively close together. You do not want to store your products in several different places around your house because they can easily be misplaced.

2. Have a system & categorize your products: Try keeping your inventory organized by best sellers or in alphabetical order, what ever suits you best, as longs as you can quickly access the products when you need them. This will help you notice when products are growing scarce, making it easy to know when you need to reorder.

3. Label, Label, Label. If you are going to store your inventory in opaque containers make sure to label them, this  way you won’t be going through multiple boxes every time you need to fill a customer’s order.

5. File away your samples. If you place your samples in an accordion file by category or by alphabetical order, you will have quick & easy access to your sample packages. You can also bundle them in a separate box for quick access before you head out the door.

6. Do away with spreadsheets.  Instead of creating a new spreadsheet when your Mary Kay inventory shipment arrives, use UnitWise to update your inventory. To make it even easier, you can import it directly from Intouch. When you record a transaction using a sales receipt or Invoice your inventory will adjust itself.

7. Periodically review your inventory. Look at your Mary Kay inventory and see what products haven’t been touched in months and what products you constantly re-stock. By reviewing what products are top sellers you will be able to better understand your customers. Snapshot of Quantity on Hand report in UnitWise will help you to get a list of your entire inventory in a snap.

Also don’t be concerned if you are a new consultant and you are just beginning to build your inventory. Developing good habits now for keeping track of your inventory will better prepare you for the future.
