Turkey Day Makeup Tips



Thanksgiving is less than a week away, are you prepared to look flawless for your turkey day feast? Think about it, you’ll be going home to see your grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, siblings, and more, so why not give them a beautiful made up face to remember you by?

Plus, family time means photo time. You’ll be in tons of photos with your relatives that will make their way all across social media for everyone on your friend’s list to see, so don’t get caught off guard.

When you go home you’ll be returning to an area where the possibilities of running into someone you know is extremely high. Old neighbors, friends from high school, old teachers, and maybe even your ex(s) may appear, so by having a flawless look you can show them that you’re doing great.

Also, they may ask what you’re wearing giving you the opportunity to push your cosmetics and make sales.

Turkey Day Makeup Tips:

Don’t try something new unless you give yourself time to practice in advance. New makeup techniques and products can be time-consuming to put on, and time is something that there just isn't enough of during the holiday cooking and cleaning rush. Plus, the new look could go wrong, causing you to look a little off and stand out.

However, you can add a little new color and glam to spice things up. Thanksgiving time is all about reds, earth tones, pinks, browns and more. Add shades of cranberry red, orange, or browns to the top of your eyelids, and compliment them with shades of white and beige.

The smokey eye is an easy look to pull off, but instead of using dark and lighter shades of mix things up with dark greys and shades of metallic earth tones.

Also, add some glam to your look by using the shimmering shades that you usually avoid on a daily basis when you have to go to the office or run errands. The holiday season is your time to pop with glitter.

Running around the home to take care of children, nieces, and nephews, cleaning the home, and spending the night before and day of cooking can be exhausting, but you don’t want to look tired, even when you’re worn out. That’s why you should use a nude eyeliner to balance out your red eyeshadow, and then use mascara to open your eyes with a big, energetic look.

Our tans are almost completely faded away, but the people viewing your photos on social media don’t have to know that. Try going a shade darker with your foundation and concealer to give yourself a warm, natural glow. However, be extremely careful not to go too dark!

The turkey won’t be the only thing stuffed! We know everyone indulges and fills up on Thanksgiving, but how will you keep your look intact? Easy, use a primer before applying your makeup, so it will last longer and use a setting spray afterward.

As far as your lips go, pick a nice shade of seasonal red in either a long lasting lipstick or lip stain. You can also put a clear coat of lipgloss on to keep your lip color intact. This way you won’t have to be running off every five minutes to reapply your lipstick.

Is your grandma conservative? If so, we don’t want you to worry her by showing up with too much makeup on. You can give yourself a beautiful natural glow with soft shades of pinks, nudes, and peach. As a result, you’ll look amazing while grandma spoils you with her secret pie recipe.

The Benefits of a Nice Smile

Even though it seems necessary for everyone to straighten their teeth with braces or retainers, each smile is unique, and it’s often the one feature people remember after meeting someone new. Smiles are visual business cards that clients use to remember you with, so make sure your smile is good.

A nice smile helps you represent yourself as a positive and confident person who takes the time to take care of themselves. Darkened teeth can often give you the appearance of being lazy, with poor health.

Bright smiles also build trust and gain attention from customers, so they’ll be more likely to buy as you win more people over.

With a brighter smile you’ll come off as charming and because smiles are contagious you’ll spread a happy feeling around the room.

How to Naturally Whiten and Protect Your Teeth

If you don’t have time for teeth whitening treatments and wish to avoid harmful chemicals like bleach, don’t worry! There are a number of small changes you can make to your daily routine to naturally brighten up your smile.

First be sure to avoid the things that make your teeth darker. We aren’t saying you have to give up dark drinks like coffee, dark sodas, and red wine, but drink them in moderation. Also, brush your teeth about 30 minutes after consuming a dark beverage to avoid stains.

You could switch from coffee to green tea for the same amount of energizing caffeine, with antioxidants, without the stains. You can also drink dark beverages with a straw so they won’t hit your teeth.

Try and take some sugar out of your diet, as it creates acid that eats away at enamel and causes bacterial infections that lead to cavities.

Don’t smoke! We can’t stress this enough, but simply don’t smoke. Smoking stains teeth, causes bad breath, harms the gums, and can lead to various oral cancers.

Brush your teeth and floss more. Flossing on a daily basis will remove bacteria before it turns into plaque build up and brushing your teeth about 30 minutes after every snack or meal will keep your breath fresh and clean.

Don’t forget to brush your tongue and use mouthwash twice daily to remove bacteria and germs.

Swishing with peroxide helps to remove surface stains as it bubbles and oxygenates. Peroxide also kills bacteria and is often found in many over the counter teeth cleaning products. Just remember to never swallow it, and rinse thoroughly after use.

Baking soda is another household item that can naturally whiten your teeth. Apply a little to your toothbrush and watch as it helps your toothpaste scrub away discoloration.

Why not use both? Combine a teaspoon of peroxide with a little baking soda and mix it until it gains the consistency of toothpaste and brush your teeth with it. Leave it on for one minute then thoroughly rinse.

Haven't you heard about the amazing benefits of coconut oil? Well, it even whitens teeth. It’s an acid-free method that doesn’t harm enamel. Swish it around in your mouth for about 20 minutes for the best results, you can do this while in the shower or while watching tv. As you swish the oil it pulls bacteria away from your teeth and gums.

Also, you can simply add a few drops to your toothbrush. Just remember to spit out your coconut oil in the trash, because if spat into the sink or drain it could become solid again and clog your pipes.

Apple cider vinegar is also a relatively new health trend. Adding it to a little water and swishing it around will kill infectious bacteria from your teeth and gums, remove stains, and eliminate bad breath. However, apple cider vinegar is acidic so rinse your mouth after use.

Got an orange or lemon around the house? Great! Use the peel or rind as an abrasive material to wipe away stains from your teeth.

Also, eat strawberries, apples, and pineapples, because they naturally clean your teeth and are excellent, healthy snacks. Some people even smash strawberries into a paste and leave it on their teeth for a few minutes to lift stains.

Protect your teeth by getting enough calcium, which prevents bone loss and tooth decay. Add calcium to your diet by eating a variety of different cheeses, broccoli, green beans, leafy greens, yogurt, low-fat milk, and more.

Vitamin D also helps to prevent tooth decay and cavities and you can get it naturally from the sun. Take a walk around lunch time to soak up some rays. To add more vitamin D to your diet eat mushrooms, fish, fortified cereals, and eggs.

The Gayle Story: A Tale of Mary Kay Success

How Gayle got Started

Gayle started selling products as a hobby after her daughter recruited her. How to Keep Your Customer's Attention



As an NSD, director, or independent beauty consultant you’ll often be in front of a crowd, either to present something to your unit members or to sell cosmetics at an event or makeup party. Unfortunately, people can zone out fast, with distractions all around them. For example, at makeup parties, most people are coming after a long day of work, and have food, drinks, their phones, and their friends as distractions all around them.

Don’t miss out on important sales because your audience gets bored! Use the following tips to learn how to engage your audience and keep their attention in order to get more sales and to gain new repeat customers.

How to Get Your Client’s Attention

First of all, go into your meeting or presentation prepared. Never wing it when public speaking is involved. If you have a plan you’ll be more confident and comfortable with addressing a room.

You can prepare by going over the new products you plan to introduce, and by putting yourself in your audience's shoes. What do they want to learn about?

Also, wear something bright and attention grabbing. Studies suggest that red is a popular color that attracts attention. Try wearing red lipstick, a red blouse, or red jewelry to fill the room with energy.

Carry yourself tall, with good posture to look confident and greet everyone with a big, genuine smile. When you speak be loud and energetic, with high energy and strong voice. Keep your presentation short, but don’t rush through it.

Be sure to know what you’re going to talk about and avoid saying words like, um, uh, or like. These words can really make you lose people.

Mention the benefits of your products and hook people with words they want to hear, like free, discount, or instantly.

Consider opening your presentation with a memorable quote. Good quotes actually played a major for Mary Kay’s success, and they’re still being used today.

How to Keep Your Client’s Attention

To keep everyone’s attention during your presentation make eye contact to connect with people. Eye contact is usually a great way to get people to put down their phones and tune into what you have to say.

Don’t be sedentary. Move around your presentation space and make hand gestures while you talk. People could get bored pretty quickly if you sit still in one place.

Keep your presentation entertaining and avoid speaking in a monotone voice. Add jokes or personal stories to your speech to seem relatable to your clients. Also, dial up your excitement at different points to re-engage your audience.

If you notice someone drifting away to imagination land bring them back by pausing your presentation to give them a direct compliment. This will break the 4th wall and invite people into your talk, so they’ll feel like they’re apart of it, and not like they’re simply observing from the sidelines.
