Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older

Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older

When it comes to makeup, it is so easy to fall into a routine without realizing it doesn’t work for us anymore. What worked for our 19-year-old self at a certain point holds us back from looking our best. It is time to update your makeup routine for 2018 and a more sophisticated you. These are common makeup mistakes that make you look older and easy fixes for a younger you.

Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older

Full Coverage Concealer

I don’t know about you, but my concealer is the crown jewel of my beauty bag. Unless you were blessed with a perfect complexion, (I was definitely not) no matter your age you need a good concealer. As a teenager it was used to cover up acne, keeping your late night movie binge in college, and now it is used to conceal those pesky fine lines.

The biggest mistake you can make with concealer is using the wrong shade or applying too much. This will highlight fine lines and make you appear older. To avoid this, I recommend using a lightweight foundation and only apply concealer to your problem areas. To avoid raccoon eyes apply concealer in an upside down triangle under your eyes.

The Might Of Mascara

As we age, everything seems to start pointing down, and it is our job to force things to go up. By things, of course, I mean your eyelashes. Our lashes, as we age, lay flat instead of naturally curling up. So, ladies, it is time to unearth that long-forgotten eyelash curler from your makeup case. The rule of thumb is if you are over 35 you need to start curling and curling every day.

To Highlight or Not to Highlight

Using a highlighter in moderation can make all the difference. Most women begin to lose their natural youthful glow in their mid-40s, so I recommend using a natural shadow that is no more than two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. Be sure to test the color in the sun before settling on a shade. What looks perfect in front of your bathroom mirror can look drastically different in the light of day. Dab a tiny bit of shadow or highlighter in the corner of your eyes to wake up your entire look.
