The Best Way to Wash Makeup Brushes

As a Mary Kay Consultant or Director, it's essential to protect your investments!

The best way to do this is properly caring for your makeup brushes. After all, you can't get the perfect look without the proper tools!

According to dermatologists makeup brushes should be thoroughly cleaned on a weekly basis at the very least to prevent bacteria build-up.

Need some tips to keep up with that timeline? Here's the best way to wash makeup brushes.

When to Wash Makeup Brushes

So, you already know that, at the very least, you need to clean your makeup brushes once a week.

However, where eye makeup is involved, that needs to be increased to once a day.

All of your makeup brushes come in contact with your skin, so it's critical that they stay clean. Even more importantly, however, is keeping makeup brushes that you use for eye makeup clean.

Your eyes are even more sensitive than the skin on your face. It doesn't take much to get an eye infection. Don't let it happen to you, and certainly don't let it happen to your Mary Kay clients!

Plus, it's good for your wallet. Cleaning your Mary Kay makeup brushes can extend the life of the bristles and make for better application, especially for eye makeup.

The hairs on your brush and sponge applicants are porous, so they hold on to oils and debris. If your tools are dirty, your makeup will be spotty and difficult to blend.

As a Mary Kay consultant, you'll want to always put your best face forward, and this isn't possible with dirty makeup brushes.

What to Use When Washing Makeup Brushes

The best method for cleaning your makeup brushes requires only a little water and soap.

I highly suggest using the Mary Kay® Brush Cleaner. Using makeup brush cleaner conditions the bristles and protects your investment. After cleaning, the brushes feel soft and perform like new.

How to Clean Makeup Brushes Here's the best way to wash makeup brushes:

  1. Wet makeup brushes with warm water (NOT hot)
  2. Use 1 to 3 sprays of MK’s makeup brush cleaner or a drop of soap in the palm of your hand
  3. Gently massage the bristles in your palm using a clockwise motion
  4. Rinse the bristles
  5. Using a clean towel squeeze out any excess water
  6. Let your brushes dry with the bristles hanging off the edge of the counter so they can dry in the correct shape

Never EVER let your Mary Kay brushes dry on a towel! This will cause your bristles to mildew, causing breakouts and other reactions.

When to Toss Makeup Brushes

It is time to toss your MK brushes when the bristles start to shed or delay. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Having the right tools as a Mary Kay consultant is just as critical as having the right MK product.
