UW Spotlight: Processing Returns after Black Friday and Pink Monday

You did it; you survived two of the biggest selling days of the year! Now comes the fun part of processing all the returns, right? With UnitWise, we make it easy for you to provide your customers the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee that Mary Kay is known for. So sit back and let us show you how it’s done.

Making a Return

Under the Customers tab on your UnitWise account, select Invoices from the drop-down menu.

This will show you a snapshot of your customer invoices, but to process a return, you’ll need to select create an Invoice for the products to be returned. After that just follow these simple instructions:

1. Enter the name of the Customer that is returning the product
2.  Enter the products being returned
3.  In Product Details, go to "Sale Type" and select "Return to MK" and click "Save".This will automatically create a credit for that customer to balance the previous invoice entered for the customer.
4. Go to "Inventory" and select "Replacement". You will notice a place for Products to be Returned. This is automatically entered based on the "Return to MK" invoice you just created. At the bottom, there is a place for Replacement Products
5. Enter the replacement products. Notice the "Retail Price" boxes. This will inform you if the difference of the products you're returning and the replacement products falls within the recommended $1.00 amount. You will need to confirm if that does.
6.  Once you have entered the replacement products and are ready to continue, you have 2 selections available. You can "Print a Worksheet" and create a paper copy of this transaction or you can "Save & Create a Purchase Order". Once you save it will go to the Purchase Order area of UnitWise
Note: Be sure to include the Day Code before clicking "Save & Create Purchase Order"
7.  Go to "Inventory" and select "Order from MK".
8.  Click on "Confirm Order with Intouch" and once the products come in you will need to return to "Order from MK" and click on "Receive Products"

The replacement process will remove the products you're returning from your inventory and add the new products when you've received them. Click here to view the returning Product Video

Once you have documented the return of products, a Credit will be applied to the Customer's account. Create another Sales Receipt (Customer >> Sales Receipt>> Create Sales Receipt) and list the new products that the customer has received as part of the exchange and apply the payment from Credit.
And you’re done! We don’t believe in making returns complicated, which is why our return feature is easier than ever to use. So start giving your customers that 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, and we’ll help you with the rest. And as always, the UnitWise Heroes are here to help save the day whenever you need us too!

A New Way To Spend Thanksgiving This Year!

It’s Thanksgiving; the perfect time to tell everyone in your life just how thankful you are for them. So Happy Thanksgiving! We’re so thankful to have you as part of the UnitWise family. This holiday, why not do something a little different around your house? Keep reading to see what we have in mind!
This Thanksgiving, take time to sit down with people in your family, listen to their stories, and record them. That’s right, interview your family members! It’s a treasure you can pass down from generation to generation, and it’s a great opportunity to learn something new about the people you love.
So we might have borrowed this idea from the Library of Congress, but we absolutely love it! The Library of Congress is inviting people to submit interviews they’ve held with their older family members. It’s called The Great Thanksgiving Listen—how cool is that? You, your children, and other family members can participate and submit their recordings to the Library of Congress. These interviews will be available in the StoryCorps archives housed in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. The mission of The Great Thanksgiving Listen is to foster connections between generations, and to send the message that people, their stories, and memories do matter. Wouldn’t it be great to spend your holiday listening, sharing, and enjoying the memories of your family? We thought so too!
If you would like to participate in the Library of Congress’ project, you can download theStoryCorps app for free. They’ll provide you a list a of suggested questions to get the conversation started, and then all you have to do is start listening! This is your chance to ask the questions you’ve always wanted to, learn something new, and appreciate your family members on a whole other level.
We hope you have a very happy and thankful Thanksgiving! And remember, if you need any emergency support, the UnitWise heroes will be available to lend their assistance. We’ll be offering emergency email support the entire holiday season, so send us an email at We’ll be happy to help!

9 Fun Ways to Thank Your Unit This Thanksgiving

The holidays are officially here! It’s time to fix delicious meals, watch the Macy’s Day Parade, and tell everyone in our lives how thankful we are for them. Hooray, for Thanksgiving!

Although food and sales preparations are on your mind, take time this holiday to let your Unit know how much you appreciate them. And what better way to do that than with these nine fun Thanksgiving activities.

1. Lunch Dates

In the spirit of eating a lot of food, why not take your Unit members out for lunch? You can do this individually with each member or as a whole group—either way it’s a great way to say thank you. And to make it fun, go to a place you normally would never go.

2. Handwritten “Thank You” Cards

Didn’t you love making handwritten cards when you were younger or how about receiving them? The thought and the effort that goes behind handwritten cards really shows your Unit how much you care. It’s also a fun activity to do one evening.

3. Do One Favor

Doesn’t it feel good when someone does a favor for you? Of course it does! Well, you can do the same for your Unit this holiday. Whether it’s bringing them lunch, or helping them throw a party, let them know you’ll do them a favor and take care of it.

4. Host a “Worksgiving”

What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with friends and a potluck meal? Open your house up for all of your Unit members to come over with their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. Play some music and enjoy the afternoon together.

5. Wall of Fame

On your My Website, create a “Wall of Fame” or “Wall of Achievement” for your Unit members. You can even promote it on your Facebook to let other people know how great your Unit is, and how much you appreciate them. It will make them feel good—trust us.

6. Training Opportunity

You noticed that one of your Unit members is doing really well hosting parties. She has great turn outs and sells a lot of products. Well, why not show her how impressed you are by asking her to offer a training session for your other Unit members? She can share her wisdom and feel more confident in her abilities, while your other Unit members get valuable training information.

7. Remember the Little Things

Remember the personal stuff about your Unit members, like their birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It might not be an outright “thank you” but it does show them that you remember the things that are important to them. And with UnitWise, you can input all of those key dates into the calendar feature and get reminders when an event is about to occur.

8. Holiday Family Time

When you sell Mary Kay products, it feels like the workday never ends, right? Well, this holiday season take time to enjoy your family. Put your phone on silent and play a board game with your children. And do the same for your Unit. Let them enjoy the time with their family without worrying too much about their Mary Kay business. It will let them know just how much you respect their life outside of work.

9. Just say “Thank You”

Sometimes all it takes is for you to say the words “thank you.” Show your Unit members you care by telling them how much you appreciate them and the work they do for you and with you.

So as you celebrate this wonderful holiday with your family and your Unit, take time to be thankful for people in your life. And from all of us here at UnitWise, we want to say “Happy Thanksgiving.”  We’re so thankful to have you as a part of our family.

A.A. Milne's 7 Tips for a Happy and Successful Life

Maybe you didn’t recognize his name at first, but you probably remember the willy, nilly, silly old bear he created—Winnie the Pooh. Although A.A Milne is most widely known for his work as a children’s author, he was also a World War I veteran, a playwright, and a poet.

As I thought about what this week’s tips and tricks would be, I knew it’d be a perfect time to draw on the inspiration of A.A. Milne. He’s an author I turn to when I need extra support and motivation to live a happier life. So without further ado, here is the top 7 life lessons I learned from A.A Milne. I hope you find these tips for a happy and successful life as helpful as I have.

1. Be Patient

“If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

Although working with people has its rewards, it’s not an easy job. Sometimes, your customers will be upset that the makeup they ordered wasn’t correct. Other times, customers might not be listening to everything you’re saying to them, and they’ll ask you to repeat yourself. And yes, we know it can be tough to keep calm but patience is worth it.

When you’re patient with your customers, you’ll provide a better service, but it doesn’t end there. Patience in your work spills over to the enjoyment you find in life.

2. Forget the Competition

“You never can tell with bees.”

We’ve all had experience with competition, haven’t we? From our time on the school playground, to auditioning in a play, we’ve always felt in competition with someone. But as A.A Milne said through the voice of Winnie the Pooh, “you can never tell with bees;” you can never tell with your competition.

My biggest advice for you is that although you work to make a living selling wonderful products and helping women succeed in earning a living, you can never tell which route your competition might take. But you always know yours. Take it, believe in it, and I promise, you’ll live a happier, more successful life.

3. Have Empathy

“A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.”

One of the most important skills to have in your job is empathy. Truly caring about your customer’s happiness and wellbeing makes a world of difference, trust us. Many women turn to makeup to hide and cover their insecurities. But your role as an Independent Beauty Sales Consultant, a Director, or an NSD is to help women see their true beauty. Makeup doesn’t hide beauty, it just highlights it. Show your customers all the compassion and empathy they need. It will help you see the happiness in your life, too.

4. Always Improve Yourself

“But now I am six. And I’m clever as clever. And now I think I’ll stay six now forever and ever.”

Do you act the same way when you were still in high school? Probably not. We all grow, mature, and change—so why settle for the same tricks you did last year or even yesterday? Every day the world gets older, you get wiser, and life changes.

Whether it’s in life or in business, you should always strive to get better each and every day. Always work to improve yourself and your business; find your strengths and identify your weaknesses. Learn what you need help with and ask other Mary Kay professionals for advice; you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the result.

We can’t stay six forever.

5. Communicate Better

“Drinking your milk and talking at the same time may result in your having to be patted on the back and dried of a long time afterwards.”

As a working professional in the customer-service world, it can be difficult to make complicated information easily understood. My word of advice: teach people as you would teach a small child. This is not to say you need to speak slower or softer, but give instructions that are easy to understand, remember, and later put into action.

Also, the more you communicate and reach out to your Unit and your customers, the more of a bond and relationship you’ll form. And with the launching of MyUnitBuzz in January, reaching out to your Unit will be easier than ever.

6. Be Attentive

“Pay attention to where you are going because without meaning you might get nowhere.”

The mark of a true professional is their ability to listen to someone when they’re speaking. Paying attention to people not only gives them a greater appreciation of you, but it also shows your appreciation of them.

For instance, you have a customer who is struggling to find the words to explain that she is insecure about her blemishes and would like to purchase a heavier concealer. Although she might not say, “I need to hide these blemishes.” She might say, “I’m looking for something that provides great coverage and helps blends my uneven skin tone.” Make sure you listen to your customers, and other people in your life; they might be saying something you’d like to hear.

7. Love
Piglet: “How do you spell love?”
Winnie the Pooh: “You don’t spell it, you feel it.”

When you love what you do, the rest comes naturally. When you follow your passion, you’ll be able to share the message of your business more effectively. When doing a job you love, you’re more excited, willing to go the extra mile, and always ready to start the day. Of course, we all have tough days, but there are never as many when you love the job that you do.

This comes with life, as well. Loving your life not only makes you happier, but it makes life come easier. Fill yourself with love and the rest will come naturally.

Whenever you need more motivation in your life, remember that the UnitWise Heroes will always be here to pick you back up again. Also, if you haven’t already, share the goodness of UnitWise with your fellow Directors. For every four eligible referrals you make to UnitWise, you’ll get a month subscription free. And now friends, this has made me want to watch Winnie the Pooh.

TTFN—ta ta for now!

5 Ways To Get Your Inventory Ready for Black Friday and Pink Monday

The holidays are fast approaching! Can you believe it? Between Christmas shopping, getting preparations ready for Thanksgiving dinner, and working, I barely have time during the day for myself.  How are you handling all the holiday buzz? I’m sure you’re getting your products ready for the biggest sales days of the year: Black Friday and Pink Monday. Well, here at UnitWise we have a few suggestions on how to get ready and stay prepared just in time!

1. Organize Your Product Shelf

Isn’t it easier to tell what something is when it’s out of the box? We think so, that’s why we advise taking your products out of the shipping boxes and putting them on a shelf. Of course, if you have younger Mary Kay enthusiasts (children) running around, make sure to place your inventory shelf in a low-traffic area.

2. Labels, Labels, Labels

I love when everything is so organized, there are even labels! Labels make a world of difference when you have a variety of foundations, powders, and other makeup products. If you’re in a time crunch and have to make several gift baskets for customers, a label maker will come in handy, letting you quickly grab products and keep moving.

3. Separate Your Demo Products

You have the products you use for selling and the ones you use for demos—best not to confuse them. We suggest placing all of the products you use for demos on another shelf or in another container. When you’re in the midst of the holiday rush, you don’t want to confuse a sample or a demo with the real-deal product.

4. Review Inventory Often

How many ivory foundation products do you have on hand? Are you going to have to go count them to find out? We hope not; there’s a faster way to do it. When you partner with UnitWise, you can keep all of your products organized, as well as view a snapshot of your quantity on hand. You can even mark certain products as hot sellers to make sure you always have plenty in stock.

Forget about writing all of your products, their arrival dates, and the quantity down on a spreadsheet; you can do it all with the help of UnitWise. What better way to keep your inventory prepared for the holidays than with the UnitWise inventory feature? And to make your life even easier, you can import all of your products directly from InTouch. Whenever you make a sale, UnitWise will update your product information, as well as prepare sales receipts and invoices to make your end-of-year filing a breeze. And what’s even better, UnitWise is as mobile as you are! From your computer, tablet, or our new My UnitBuzz app, you can access all of your information from your UnitWise account. Don’t have internet connection where you’re going? No problem; use the mobile site

Getting ready for the busiest season doesn’t have to be difficult when you have UnitWise on your side. See how the inventory feature can help you manage and keep track of all of your products. Are you ready to sell, sell, sell this holiday season?

Keep Your Sanity: 10 Ways to Stay Organized in Life and at Work

Growing up in my house was organized chaos. With four children running around, two parents with full-time jobs, a dog and a cat, I guess you can say there was more chaos than organization. It was a hard lesson to learn that chores had to be done daily to keep my mother’s sanity and for our house to resemble some sort of order when people visited. Let me tell you, keeping organized is not for the faint-hearted.

How do you maintain your sanity with a house, a life, and a Mary Kay business to keep shipshape? I mean all you have to do is pick up, put away, and throw away, right? Actually, yes! That is all you have to do, but we have some more suggestions to make staying organized a little easier.

In Life

In your life, it’s easy to lump items in a pile to sort through later. However, if you incorporate a few habits into your daily activity, the piles will shrink and disappear… forever.

1. To-Do List

I sure do love a good list! Something about being able to strike-through a project or chore gives me the rejuvenated feeling that I can even conquer the world if it was on the list. Designating a notebook or a calendar for all of your tasks and appointments might not make a dent in the pile, but it does take a chunk out of the mental clutter you’ve got going on.

2. Menu Planning

How tiring is it to get off work only to have to plan, cook, and clean up dinner? For me, very tiring! When I get off work, my thoughts are on how nice it will be to lay on the couch, cuddled up in a blanket, with a tub of ice cream—this never happens. Planning your dinner menu in advance though can help tremendously. Thinking of your menu, even if it’s the night before, can cut down the time you spend mentally worrying about what to fix, grocery shopping, and it even can eliminate the craving for fast food.

3. Never Leave Empty-Handed

Do you have a habit of kicking your shoes off by the door or taking a glass of water into another room but never returning it? Don’t worry, you’re not alone on this; I struggle with my scattering of shoes, daily. One of the tips I have for you, though, is to never leave a room empty-handed. If you are going from the living room to the kitchen, take that cup that’s been sitting on the coffee table with you. If you are headed to your bedroom, why not bring those shoes that have been laying by the door with you? Watch how fast your clutter pile shrinks!

4. Quick Clean Round

When your house is clean, don’t you sleep better? I know I do, which is why I endorse the quick clean round before tucking in for the night. It doesn’t have to be much, but wiping down counters, picking up shoes, and refolding blankets are simple tasks that can make a big difference in the physical and mental tidiness.

5. Forget-Me-Not Shelf

You borrowed your best friend’s shirt to wear for an event. And if shirts can wait, this one has been sitting by the door anticipating getting back to its owner every day for a month now. That’s why a forget-me-not shelf or rack can be the next home decor item you install. Place it by the door so when you’re heading out, you pick it up and take it with you.

At Work

In your workspace, how easy is it to brush off to-do list items for something else? We agree—pretty easy! That’s why we have a few suggestions to help you stay organized and on your game while at work.

6. Prioritize Today’s Goals

What are today’s goals? What’s the most important item you need to get done? When you ask yourself those questions you already have the answers in mind. So write them down and go! Don’t worry yourself all day with the amount of work you have to get finished, focus on one task at a time.

7. Organize Your Workspace

This is your chance! Decorate your workspace and tell whoever ask that it’s for work productivity. When you feel good about where you’re working, the more work you’ll actually do. And the best go-to site for all of your inspirations and interests is of course, Pinterest! Here are 14 suggestions to create the chicest desk ever.

8. Chunk the Non-Essentials

From paperwork, trash, pencil shavings, receipts, and other random items, your desk can become cluttered in no time. Now, we know it’s not logical to have a perfectly clean desk all the time, but chunking the non-essentials out of your way can help drastically limit the amount of distractions around you.

9. Take Breaks

Too often, we have so much to get done that we forget or don’t even bother to take a break. Stop! Your mind needs to recuperate and the best way to let that happen is by taking a break, stretching your legs, and letting your mind relax.

We would never forget to include one of the most useful business management solutions for your Mary Kay business in this list. UnitWise is one of the best ways to keep you organized. From keeping track of all of your Mary Kay products, to reaching out to your Unit members via email and text blasts, to connecting with potential Unit members and clients through your social media and My Website—UnitWise can really get you organized both at home and in life! You have an account, right? If you don’t, ask your friends—they’ll tell you what you’re missing!
