Top 5 Ways To Use Pinterest For Your MK Business

#1 - Plan for Pinning Success
  • Put in the time to set up your account properly and jot down what you think you will be using your account for to act as a guide. Decide whether you want your own name or your unit name to be what viewers will associate with the account. Don’t forget to set up the links to your website and social media channels on your profile, so viewers can move seamlessly between platforms.
  • Integrate all your social media platforms. You can easily add Pinterest sharing buttons and apps to other social media platforms, such as Facebook. Call-to-action words are great to add to your Google+, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn to gain more followers on your Pinterest page!
  • When setting up your initial “Boards”, choose topics or categories that reflect your business values, culture, interests, products and services. Get creative with your Board Names.
#2 - Check the Source Before You Pin
  •  Be Copyright Smart. Read the fine print first. It might take an extra few seconds, but it adds a degree of credibility to your page.
  • Always double check the source of the Pin. This is very important. When re-pinning, click before you repin to see if pins are sourced from a legitimate website. If content has been “re-sourced” with a false URL to another site, you shouldn’t repin it.
#3 - Pin Strategically
  • Pin across a range of Boards. Add pins gradually, and create new boards as you feel necessary. Be creative with your board names, captions and pins.
  • Follow, Follow, Follow. Start following users and/or individual boards that are of interest to you. By following and engaging with users and repinning their content, you will begin to build your own community of followers.
  • Space your pins. Don’t do a pin dump! Pinterest is unlike Facebook and Twitter where the feed-time is limited. Pins will remain in view for days or weeks due to the cyclical nature of their exposure. Pinning for a few minutes a couple of times per day is enough to get you started.
  • Time your pins. Take note of the times when your fans are pinning - be flexible, and if all else fails, 2-4pm and at night are popular for pinning according to Pinterest.
#4 - Be Social
  • Comment and Like. Just like you would socialize on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Google+, be sure to comment on and Like the pins of other users and businesses.
  • Use Names and Tags to make your page more personable. Use @tags to notify the user you are engaging with. Hashtags (#) are used to highlight keywords that will lead viewers to your page when searched. By using names and tags, you can stand out among the large majority of Pinterest users and create engaging boards.
  • Remember to Say Thank You. This is a forgotten art on Pinterest and other social media channels. Regularly check your Re-pins and visit the boards of people who have repinned your content and make the effort to thank them for repinning. Just like RTs on Twitter, or Shares on Facebook, the Repin is a valuable thing.
#5 - Produce Visual Content
  • Choose great images for your boards. Having interesting, engaging, quality images will most likely get your content repinned. Include photos, infographics, videos and text. Don’t forget that text is important to accompany your pins.
  • Make pinners want to click on your pin by making them simple, visual, and clear. Experiment with size by mixing in taller pins to give your board a visually appealing look.

Using CDS in UnitWise

UnitWise has simplified the CDS Order process! We have added the ability to keep track of the invoice and expense all in one transaction.

Here's how it works in a few simple steps:
Step 1: Create an Invoice/Receipt
Step 2: Calculate Shipping and your Cost of Goods
Step 3: Select an account for the expenses

Lets take a closer look
Step 1 - Create the invoice or receipt as you normally would, but make sure to check the "Use Customer Delivery Service" box located under the customers information.

Step 2 - Calculate shipping and enter it here into the shipping field, if the cost of shipping was passed onto your customer then leave this field at $0 and charge shipping on the customers portion.

Step 3 - The "Amount Paid to MK" field will be the wholesale product price + your shipping cost (if shipping was passed to customer then amount is 0) + the full retail tax amount.

Step 4 - The "Pay From" Account is going to record the expense into your Chart of Accounts, simply choose which account to charge and enter the total cost of goods again (this will be the same amount located in the COG field).

After you Save this Receipt, a Purchase Order will automatically be created to track your expenses incurred for this CDS Order!

If you have any questions, you can give us a call at 704.234.6006 or email us at

Winter Skin Care Tips

The bitter winter weather affects your skin in several ways. Cold winter air lacks humidity and dries up natural oils in your skin, causing it to lose its moisture. Bitter winter winds also cause chapping and windburn, leading to rough, cracked skin that can feel tight and uncomfortable.
Here are some helpful tips to protect your skin:
  • Moisturize More - some moisturizers work great in the spring and summer, but as weather conditions change, so should your skin routine. An ‘ointment’ moisturizer that’s oil-based, rather than water-based, will create a protective layer on the skin that retains more moisture than a cream or lotion. For the face, look for moisturizers with ‘non-clogging’ oils, like mineral oil (Firming Eye Cream, Hydrating Lotion) primrose oil, or almond oil.
  • Layer on the Sunscreen - Sunscreen isn’t just for summertime. The winter sun - combined with snow glare - can still damage your skin. (MK’s Sun Care line is great for broad spectrum protection year round)
  • Protect those lips - In winter, it’s easier for the moisture in your lips to be taken away by the elements. The best way to protect your lips is to use a lip balm ( like MK’s Satin Lips Lips Balm)  -- chap sticks tend to be waxy and don’t protect as well against winter weather.
  • Give your hands some TLC - the skin on your hands tends to be thinner than on most parts of the body and has fewer oil glands. That means it’s harder to keep your hands moist, especially in cold, dry weather. ( MK’s Satin Hands line is perfect for protecting hands from winter’s drying effects)

By knowing how winter weather affects your own skin, you are able to recommend moisturizing products that will keep your customer’s skin vibrant, flawless and healthy through the cold winter months.

Adding a Translator tool to your UnitWise website

If you have a multi lingual Unit or Customer base you may benefit from adding a Google Translate Tool to your UnitWise website to help your site visitors navigate your pages even if English is not their first language.

First go to the Google Translator tool page, then follow the prompts selecting your Translator tool preferences.

When you arrive to this page, please leave it open. (Section 1 and 2 are highlighted for reference later)

Next you will need to go to your UnitWise account >Social Media>My Website>Edit site>select Home Page and click on Source as shown below:

Then copy & paste the code from Section 1 of the translator page to the very beginning of your page code.

Make sure to click Apply to save the changes.

Then, click on Layout Settings>Change HTML>Paste the code in the place where you want the Translator Tool to appear on your website. In our case we wanted it to be right below the Header, so we inserted the Section 2 code this way:

Make sure that you click Update and Apply HTML to Public Site for the changes to take effect.

Go to View my Website to check it out!
Now your site visitors can select the Language preference to navigate your website.

Reinvigorate your Mary Kay business

Courtesy of

Start anew this year and refocus your  business for 2014. You can improve upon your 2013 sales with a little help from UnitWise and a positive attitude. We want to help you succeed and grow so we have put together the following tips on how to best put the pep back into your personal selling and productivity.

1. Network using your social circles.

Every consultant or director is trying to expand their clientele, so there may be strict competition and a limited number of potential customers in your area. To increase your odds of securing new business you must increase the number of people you speak to everyday. You want to let every person you come across daily know that you are available to schedule a party and give them a business card. Even when meeting people for the first time it is a good idea to “plant seeds”, talk to them about your business and your recent experiences helping women feel beautiful. Planting seeds may inspire them later on making it easier for you to eventually recruit them as a Consultant.

2. Make your parties memorable

Give your potential buyers not just great products to choose from, but a memorable experience they just have to tell all their friends about. Like Mary Kay Ash said, “Everyone has an invisible sign hanging from their neck saying, 'Make me feel important.' Never forget this message when working with people.” Find new party ideas on our UnitWise Pinterest board!

3. Educate your customers

Tell them about the benefits of each product you think they would love and how to use it. Get to know your customer, their lifestyle, and what they’re interested in so you can better sell to them. Also you should give them makeup upkeep tips such as when to replace mascara (every 3 months) due to bacteria buildup that could cause pink-eye and how to care for their makeup brushes. By giving them more information you will be more likely to get repeat customers.

4. Learn from your team

Make sure to go to as many meetings you can in order to absorb all the selling and cosmetic advice those ladies can offer. Your director is also a great person to look to for mentorship. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, the Mary Kay community is there to help you.

5. Use UnitWise!

We make sure that UnitWise helps you keep track of sales invoices, appointments, inventory, and even birthdays! Even on the go, you can use the UnitWise app (available on Google Play or in the App Store) to remind yourself of your daily tasks. Keep in touch with your team using our conference call feature and manage your finances with our reports.

Now is the time to breathe new life into your Mary Kay business, take advantage of all of your resources and reach your goals!

Using Call notes in UnitWise

As a busy MK consultant you have to deal with a multitude of tasks everyday. UnitWise has developed a Call Notes feature to help you stay organized and grow your business all while providing the best customer service.

Call Notes allow you to make a memo of what has been discussed with a customer, prospective client or a team member over the phone or in person. Every call note has a feature to create a follow up task so you will remember to check back with a customer at a later date. Call Notes can be very useful in the following scenarios:

Leads Scenario:
As you create a Lead in UnitWise (Customers>Customer Center>Add New>Lead) you will be automatically creating a follow up task with them. The dates for the follow up are determined in your account Preferences or you can manually set the date. The follow up task reminds you to call/email you Lead. As you speak to your Lead, you can make notes of your conversation; their opinions, possible appointments, product recommendations etc.

The follow up appointment will appear on your Calendar, Dashboard and Daily Email of Agenda.

As you call again, you may create another Call Note and a Follow up task.

In order to see your Follow up tasks at a glance you can go to Customers>Customer Center>Call Notes/Follow up

Customer Follow Up Scenario:
You can use the Call Notes feature to streamline your record keeping.
When generating Sales Receipts and Invoices in UnitWise, a follow up task is automatically created. You always want to contact your customers to make sure that they are happy with the product. When you call, really listen to their feedback and make notes via the Call Notes feature.

When you make your follow up call with your customer, you will be on top of your game, remembering the conversation and the details from the initial call.

If the customer calls you, you won’t be caught off guard, just go to Customers>Customer Center>pull up your customer>”N” or Call Notes tab inside the profile and read  the notes of the previous conversation. Voila, you are a pro at Customer Follow Up.

When you complete the follow up call,  mark the follow up task as Completed by changing the color of the flag in the Dashboard or from the Customer’s Activities tab from Blue to Green

You may also Delete the task if you no longer need to reference it. Deleting the task will not delete the call note itself.
Call Notes can be edited or deleted as needed by opening your customer profile>Call Notes tab>click Edit (or Delete).
If you like to manage all your customers’ Call Notes, you can access them all, by going to Activities>Notes.

If you have any questions about Call Notes feature in UnitWise, please feel free to contact UnitWise Heroes at
