Meet Our NSD's: Kendra Cross

Kendra Cross is a Sales Director for the Cross National Area.  I recently had the opportunity to speak with her about her Mary Kay Experience.

When did you first get involved in Mary Kay?
-1977.  I was a teacher and houseparent for emotionally-challenged adolescents.

What was the moment that you became not only involved in Mary Kay, but Passionate about Mary Kay?
-When I began working with Mary Kay, I wanted to make fifty dollars per week.  My husband I found out that we were about to have a child that we thought we'd never have.....and I wanted to be a work-at-home mom...not an out-of-the-home-all-the-time mom.  At that moment, my purpose became greater than my circumstances.

How have you been inspired by the life of Mary Kay Ash?
-I actually had the good fortune of knowing her.   She trained my DIT class.  I had the privilege of traveling with her throughout my career.  Being with her really was a magical experience.  She set a gold standard that doesn't change.  Her legacy has greatly influenced my philosophy, which is "If God gives you the gift of leading women, then for God's sake lead."

How has your life changed since Mary Kay became a part of your life?
-I believe that this is the land of opportunity, and this is the opportunity of the land.  My involvement in Mary Kay has helped me build my beliefs that in this life you should: Make as much money as you can, Pay your Debts, Invest for the Future, Live Below your means, and give generously.

What is your favorite part of being involved in Mary Kay?
-Watching someone else get it, understand the possibilities, and have other success.  That is a paycheck of the heart that never gets old.  Each car represents lives impacted and it is evidence of that.

How has the internet changed the way you do business?
-We used to have paper agreements that had to be sent in the mail, now we live in an age where information travels at autobahn speeds.  You need to use the internet, without letting the internet use you.  It can be a great ally, or your worst enemy.

How much time do you spend online each day?
-About 2 hours

What is your preferred way of contacting your unit?
-A combination of phone calls and emails.

What Social Media do you use?
-Facebook

How would you describe the balance between your work and your personal life?
-Excellent!  To succeed, you need to find your perfect balance.  You need to figure that out early if you want to be able to do it long term.  I had some great mentors that modeled this perfectly for me.

What are your keys to success?
-Tenacity
-Unshakeable Belief in the Company
-Attitude
-Compassion
-Resiliency

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
-I Love to Read!  I also enjoy being outdoors as much as possible.  I am mesmerized by wildlife.  I enjoy walking, and love bargain hunting.

What Do you think about UnitWise?
-I love my website and guestbook

What motivates/inspires you?
-The success of others

What advice would you give directors and consultants?
-Don't Quit Ever!  It is very short-sighted to step out.  Quitting is like a band aid to a problem, it is not a fix to a problem.

On behalf of UnitWise and it's many users, I would like to thank NSD Kendra for the chance to talk with her.  It has been great to get to know you!
-Charles (one of the Heroes at UnitWise)

Pam Klickna-Powell is a Sales Director for the Klickna-Powell National Area.  I recently had the opportunity to talk with her about her experience with Mary Kay.

When did you first get involved in Mary Kay?
-March of 1979.  I was teaching art classes and I had just had a baby.  I could have used some additional income.

What was the moment in which you became not only involved in Mary Kay, but Passionate about Mary Kay?
-We have a saying that first you get into Mary Kay, and Then Mary Kay gets into you.  For me this moment came when I realized that it was about changing lives, not just faces.

How have you been inspired by the life of Mary Kay Ash?
-I try to carry on her legacy.  She had such a beautiful heart, and a gift for making people feel special.  Like Mary Kay, I want to help other women discover the greatness inside of them.

What is your favorite part of being involved in Mary Kay?
-Ever since I was a teacher, I have wanted to be able to make a difference in peoples lives.

How has the Internet changed the way you do business?
-Everything has become fast paced.  It is so much easier now to reach people and spread news and ideas.

How much time do you spend online each day?
-About one hour.  I prefer as much one-on-one contact as possible.

What is your preferred way of contacting your unit?
-I prefer as much personal meetings as possible, although other ways may be faster.

What have you found to be the most effective social media tool for your business?
-Facebook.  I try to update my page at least once each day.  It is a great way to stay connected with my Unit.  I find that many of my younger consultants heavily utilize it.

How would you describe the balance between your work and personal life?
-I Love The Balance!  You have to work hard, but you can choose who you work with. I have found that because of the great Integrity of the women I get to work with each day, it is like spending the day with your friends.

What are your keys to success?
-Balance of Passion and Work Ethic
-Work Consistently
-Be Proactive
-Remember that Good is the enemy of Great
-Ask yourself "What can I do today to bring about my goal and move forward?"

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
-Playing Tennis with my husband
-Skiing with my family
-All Outdoor Activities
-Reading
-Traveling to New Places

What do you think about UnitWise?
-I Love my Website!  I am not a very technical person, but I have a new assistant who manages my UnitWise account.

What Motivates/ Inspires You?
-Watching women fulfill their potential, and step into greatness.

What advice would you give directors and consultants?
-People often make the mistake of selling the starter kit, and not the opportunity that comes with it.  I would challenge directors and consultants to not even tell people what the kit is worth, because the value of the opportunity is so much greater.
-You need to show up to go up.
-Heavily Train New Consultants
-Find Your Passion
-Power Start will propel you forward
-Always be setting goals, but also put in the time and focus on accomplishing those goals.

On Behalf of UnitWise and its many users, I would like to thank NSD Pam for the chance to talk with her.  You are an inspiration to us all!  Thank You!
-Charles (one of the heroes at UnitWise)

Face Bags, Party Setup, and more tips from Julie

Julie Potts, is an Independent Senior Sales Director from Ft Myers, FL. Julie will post a blog each Saturday full of tips, tricks, info and advice for other consultants and directors. Be sure to check back each week!

Seems like its been awhile since I've covered face bags.  I put 30 together to start each month bc my goal is 30 every month.  So I am ready and all I do is grab how many bags needed per appt.

Use small mk bag or pretty cello bag:
Pen!
skincare profile
sales ticket
beauty book
recruiting paper...any will do
hostess credit sheet
business card
Mirror insert tray
Wash cloth-tear in half works
Mascara wand
Eye applicator

Maybe add Look Book but definitely have them on table. You can get 1-2 laminated a season so that you have ones you can put out and keep or there are page protector books just for Look Books...go to www.lastimp.com under business building ideas, they have book protectors the size of the Look and the Beauty Books.

I don't add cotton balls to the bag because they get in the mascara wand.  I use cotton pads for eye makeup remover and I have cheap mini cheek brushes instead of cotton balls for the blush or I use the Cream Blush with fingers. Then all you need are clean mirrors and off you go.

At my party, the set up time is this...put out mirrors, put bag on top...I don't open til guest arrives! Open my roll up.  Lay out some candy and seasonal decorations on the table plus my 3 door prizes and hostess gift for holding party. Done until guests arrive!

Because someone will ask:  3 door prizes: 1 for referral game after skin care. Who gets done fastest gets gift. Everyone gets one glamour at half price for 7 names on profile. BTW, I changed this to after the skincare instead at the end of it all because once they get into their phones, I found that I lost some of their attention and their "buying mood."  So now I do the referral after skincare and right before PINK marketing then I finish with Color and my 4Q close.
1 for sales ticket drawing.  Hand out the sales tickets after the 4Q close and show them how to fill out their tickets. Let them know that refreshments will be after the drawing in about 15 min once you have collected all the sales tickets.  Then go around the table one by one and help them finish their tickets.  Once refreshments are served then you go around and book the parties so that the hostess gets her full credit.  1 for who buys the most.

Because someone will ask:  4Q Power Close that they write on the back of their profile card...
1- What would you like to learn more about at your second appt?
2- Would you like to have a private, party or be a face model for your second appt?  And please write am, pm or weekend for your best availability.
3- Which set appealed to you the most if you got MK for free...Goddess, Queen or Princess?
4- About the Thinking Pink...write Yes if you would like to take home some info. Write OK if your not interested in going pink but you could help me with my training.  It's a 20 min phone call and you get a free lipstick. or Write no to all of the above.

Party On!
Julie

Time Management – To do list delivered right to your inbox!

Margrette Field, an Independent Sales Director from Vista, CA. Margrette will post a blog each Tuesday full of tips, tricks, info and advice for other consultants and directors. Be sure to check back each week!

Hello Super Stars!

Do you feel the excitement around the $50 Starter Kit?  I hope you’re sharing this promotion with everyone you know this month!  And, to keep up with all of the follow ups you are probably doing and to help you stay focused on all of the other tasks you have for yourself, remember you can utilize the email notification option in UnitWise!  I LOVE this!  Every morning I receive an email with my “agenda” for the day!  The way you want to set this up is by going to Settings>Preferences>Others and selecting the box for Daily Email Notification of Agenda.  You can print this out and viola, you have all of your appointments and reminders of what to do and you’re ready to start your day. Get creative with the appointments you set for yourself. I recommend an “appointment” for your Power Hour!  This will include PRO-activity.  Income Producing Activities (booking, coaching, selling, sharing our business information, asking for referrals, and then everything else!)  I also like to include my daily affirmation time!  You can set up reminders throughout the day, if you wish. Those can be set up to be texted or emailed or have a pop up on your computer sent to you.

Make it a GREAT day!

Pink Hugs,
Margrette

The Chicken Book

Julie Potts, is an Independent Senior Sales Director from Ft Myers, FL. Julie will post a blog each Saturday full of tips, tricks, info and advice for other consultants and directors. Be sure to check back each week!

I have been teaching a lot of people this month the Chicken Book so maybe you need one too! First, go get a composition book. You need it to last because you could be working with it for years. Second, go through your cellphone, facebook and emails. Write down everyone listed and leave a few lines to take notes because you won't always book them the first time you call so take notes of when to call back, when did you leave a message. I mark them off only after they become a Customer! Some contacts can take months or years to finally book. Third, don't skip anyone. If Albert is first then write him because we have men's products and most importantly, ALBERT KNOWS WOMEN! So call Albert and say...Hi Albert I am so excited. I just joined MK or I'm in a challenge with MK...and I need the women in your life. :) I will offer them a Free makeover pampering session plus a FREE gift from YOU! What about Dr Anderson? Are there women in the office? Stop by or call and say...Hi my name is Julie and I'm one of your patience. I just joined MK/I teach skincare and color with Mary Kay and I was hoping I got drop off a Book to your office...do you have a MK Consultant servicing your office yet? Fourth, continuously add more names. Names from networking. Names from referrals at your appts. Names from anywhere you get a name and phone number. :) I call this my Chicken Book because you will be book book book booking! Keep it with you so that when you are waiting in carpool, on the treadmill at the gym, break at the office, or the kids are busy playing/doing homework then you can make one call. Often while the kids were growing up, I didn't have even 30 min free to make a series of calls but if organized then you can steal away calls here and there. Happy Booking!

It's Tax Time!

 Hey Ladies!

Benjamin Franklin once said "There is nothing in this world that is certain but death and taxes."  It is now that time of year when one of those is fulfilled.  This is an odd tax year because the actual tax due date is Monday April 18th, rather than the traditional April 15th deadline, because April 15th is Emancipation Day, which is a government holiday in Washington DC.

If you are not ready to file your taxes yet, we would like to remind you that you can use our sister product, ExpressExtension.com, to extend your tax deadline by 6 months!  As an added bonus, we would like to offer a discount exclusively for our UnitWise users!  You can use the Promo Code: SAVE20 to receive a 20% discount on a tax extension through ExpressExtension.com

Tax Tips

Margrette Field, an Independent Sales Director from Vista, CA. Margrette will post a blog each Tuesday full of tips, tricks, info and advice for other consultants and directors. Be sure to check back each week!

Hello Super Stars!

Since its tax time, I thought I would share a couple new additions to our invoices you may have noticed.  There are little check boxes to make it easier for us all to adjust our invoices according to the way we want to run our business.  You have the option to tax on shipping and handling by checking the box to the right of the shipping area on the invoice.  And you also have the option to tax your customer’s order before a discount you may give or after the discount.  Since you’re an independent contractor you get to decide how to handle that situation when it comes up for you.  Remember, if you choose to tax on the after discount amount, you can recoup that uncollected sales tax on your taxes!  It’s considered “unrecovered sales tax”.

Have a great day!

Margrette

Race to Red

Margrette Field, an Independent Sales Director from Vista, CA. Margrette will post a blog each Tuesday full of tips, tricks, info and advice for other consultants and directors. Be sure to check back each week!

Hello Super Stars!

Are you ready for an Audacious April?  There is really only one thing I have to say this week.  $50 Starter Kit!!!!!!  Yahoo!! I hope that you’re focused on building your team and it couldn’t be any easier to offer this amazing opportunity than with a ½ price Starter Kit!  Thank you, Mary Kay!  As we know the best place to find new team members is at our Skin Care Classes, right?!  New team members that come from your appointments see the fun we have and how we make our money.  It’s the next logical step after falling in love with our products, to fall in love with our business!  This means, your best customers would be a great place to start in team building. They will also be a great referral source for you!  Go to your UW Dashboard and click on the “Home” tab and then click Reports.  You will find an option to see your Top Performing Customers!  You can sort through them by names and dates for a specific time.  Then, go down the list and ask yourself these two questions.  Do I like her?  Would I be upset if someone else recruited her?  This will be a great place to start in addition to the new faces you’ll see all month long.

Sell your way to Star, Race to RED!!!

Pink Hugs,
Margrette
