Finding The Right Shade Of Foundation

We are taking things back to the basics because as you teach potential clients about makeup at your makeup parties or do some consulting work you will quickly realize there are a few people out there who don’t know where to start with makeup. In order to educate the masses to get more sales use our makeup guides to teach beginners everything they need to know. Today’s topic is finding the right foundation.

Finding The Right Foundation

It’s important to explain the different between foundation and concealer because it’s extremely common for ladies to think that they are the same thing. Foundation is what you use to cover your entire face and concealer is what you use to cover dark spots like bags under the eyes or acne.

There is a little bit of debate over whether you should use concealer or foundation first. Some experts suggest using concealer first to evenly cover dark spots, and others suggest using it second, so you’ll end up using less. In the makeup world, less is always more to avoid looking thick and cakey.

Also, you want your concealer and foundation to match or to be close in color so they will blend well together. Otherwise, you might need a 3rd shade to prevent any noticeable overlapping of colors while blending.

The overall goal is to find a shade of foundation that matches your skin tone. That may seem obvious, but it’s to not total beginners. Getting a shade that’s lighter than your skin can end up making you look like you’re wearing too much makeup or chalky.

Also, picking a shade that’s too dark can make you look orange, or overly tan. When it comes down to the wire and you have to make a quick foundation decision always go with the shade of foundation that’s slightly darker. Never go lighter.

To see what color truly matches your skin tone test a little of the foundation on the back of your hand or chest. However, it's important to test the color in an area that has natural light. Your skin doesn’t always look like the way it does under bright fluorescent lights in the makeup store. Remember, you can walk outside of the store to see how closely different shades of foundation match your skin tone. Just don't walk out while holding any products!

When in doubt ask for help. The associates in makeup stores know what they’re doing. They will walk you through the foundation matching process step-by-step. However, at the end of the day, it’s important that you pick the shade that you like the most. Wear your makeup with comfort and confidence.

Be sure to pick the right type of foundation as well. Do you have oily or dry skin? Because that makes a difference! You may need a powder foundation to soak up some oil or a liquid one to moisturize your skin. Foundations in stick form are for highlighting and contouring.

Use the right tool for applying your foundation. Fingers are fine for applying foundation as long as you make sure to evenly apply it. It’s better to use either a sponge or a makeup brush with angled bristles. For powder foundation, it’s best to use a fluffy brush for a light finish.

Turn Beginners Into Pros

Get more sales by teaching beginners everything they need to know about makeup. Once they realize how easy it is to use they will be hooked and might even become lifetime customers. Remember to start with the basics, and foundation is always a great topic to cover.

Boost Your Beauty Business With Email Marketing

Getting more sales is always one of your goals as a member of the beauty consulting industry right? We know you’re already a pro at hosting makeup parties and hooking new leads to push your products, but have you considered taking things to a digital level? By using UnitWise to create marketing emails you could boost your sales online by only taking a minute or two to make the perfect message for your target audience. It’s a quick and simple way to hook more customers.

UnitWise

UnitWise is the best personal assistant you could ever ask for. It’s the number one business management solution that’s specifically designed for NSDs, directors, and independent beauty consultants. Plus, it comes with tons of innovative, time-saving features for inventory management, accounting, unit reports, email marketing, and more.

Email Marketing With UnitWise

Email marketing is the most cost-effective method of advertising because everyone checks their email at least once a day, and the space inside of their inbox is free, so why not take up some of that space with an email advertising a discount or sale?

By sending out marketing emails you will be expanding your brand and online presence for free. It’s a way to get repeat customers to purchase more products and to hook new clients. You can design a targeted email to reach a specific audience in a matter of minutes.

The idea of creating a marketing email shouldn’t be intimidating because UnitWise has already taken care of the complicated parts for you. With UnitWise you’ll have access to a premade email template where you can simply drag and drop images and charts.

Your marketing emails are 100% customizable. It’s extremely easy to edit the fonts to be any size or color that you want, change the color of the background, and you can add an unlimited amount of images or videos to your emails. Once you’ve finished creating an email you can save it as a template to use again later.

Each email also has an individualized appearance. All of the email addresses that your email goes to will be hidden, so it will look like your email was sent individually to each one of your clients. Also, the greeting will automatically include your customer’s name.

You can create customized email groups to send your marketing emails to. This way you can target certain groups for products. For example, if you have customers who enjoy the hand repair kit you can create a group for them and then send them special discounts on scrubs and hand creams.

Plus, with UnitWise you can plan your emails in advance and schedule them to send out on a certain day and time. This way you don’t have to rush to create emails the day of your sale. You can spend one afternoon planning out your special deals and discounts for the entire week, month, or more!

No one will receive your emails if they don’t want them because UnitWise has made it extremely easy for people to unsubscribe from your messages. Once they unsubscribe they’ll longer receive your marketing emails.

Email marketing takes a little practice to learn what your audience enjoys and responds best to. That’s why you can view email marketing reports at any time to see the open rate, conversion rate, how many people went to your site from the email, unsubscribes, and more. Learn from your totals to see which sale your clients like the most and when the best time to send an email out is.

Spring Cleaning For Your Makeup Collection

Sometimes your bathroom can be a battle ground. When you’re running late you have to rush to put on your perfect face before running out the door. Amidst the storm, some products get left out on the counter and soon your bathroom is a mess. Now that spring is here it’s time to make your makeup space fresh and clean again, so check out these spring cleaning tips for your makeup stash.

Spring Cleaning Your Makeup Cabinet

The first step is getting through your phase of denial. It’s time to get rid of products that you got on a whim but in reality, will never wear. That orange shimmering blush and teal lipstick need to go. You need to make more space for the items you use on a regular basis.

Then assess your eye products. Eyeliners and mascaras are notorious breeding grounds for bacteria and can cause styes and infections. Generally, mascaras need to be replaced every 3 months and eyeliners last about six. Also, clean your eyelash curler with a gentle soap to knock out bacteria.

You should actually take a look at all of your products to see what has expired. If you can’t find the expiration dates on your lipsticks, foundations, and more then put them through the physical test. See how they smell, if they smell funky, or waxy, then their time is done. Then look at their texture, anything that’s dry, crumbly, or clumpy needs to go.

Check all of your products to make sure their bottles or containers don’t have any cracks. If your items leaks and will make your space messy then it has to go, no matter how much you love it.

Think about everything that happens to your bathroom counter. Makeup spills, water splashes around, your toothbrush sometimes rests on it, and more, making conditions ideal for bacteria to flourish. Then when you rest your makeup brushes on your counter the bacteria can spread to them and then to your face!

That’s why you need to wash your makeup brushes! Use a gentle cleanser like dawn or baby shampoo to knock out the bacteria, thoroughly rinse them, and let them dry.

Next, wash your bathroom or vanity. Remove all the makeup from the containers, drawers or cabinets and wipe down the space with a spray cleaner and scrub any and all bacteria away. Put your products back when your makeup storage area is dry.

If you keep everything in a bag then clean it out as well. Wipe down the inside of it with wet wipes or send it through the wash.

Replace your makeup for the new season. In the winter you need thicker items with more moisturizer to fight dryness, but in the spring you’ll need lighter items to prevent your face from looking oily.

Also, you may not have noticed, but you probably have a bit of a tan going on. As the summer approaches your skin will get darker, so be sure to get darker shades of foundation to match. You never want to have a shade lighter than your actual skin tone.

Implement a storage system. There are tons of organizers that go on sale in the spring, where you can place all of your products in, by category from lip products to primers. You can also get rotating caddy or portable caddy to keep your items in. For long, slender items, that like to roll like eyeliner, get a decorative jar or container to place them in.

Last but not least, the fun part. Go shopping to replace the items you tossed out. Get new spring shades of lighter colors, all natural shades of eyeliners, and lipsticks. See what new products are trending, and even treat yourself to a new makeup bag!

Happy Spring Cleaning

This time of the year means that winter is gone and we can celebrate by cleaning everything up for a fresh and clean feel. This even applies to our makeup cabinets. Out with the old and in with the new for a fabulous spring feeling and look!

The Beginner's Guide To Contouring

There’s no way that you work in the beauty industry and you haven’t heard about contouring. The way to give your face all natural shaded look, and flawless shape, that’s currently all the rage. Also, we know you probably have at least one friend who takes makeup as a serious hobby and that one friend who can’t tell an eyeliner pencil from mascara.

So, this post serves to help out the beginners to contouring. Plus, once you get the hang of contouring it will be an awesome thing to teach at your makeup parties!

Contouring For Beginners

First, start by getting the materials that you’ll need. Some people suggest bronzers, and others suggest two different shades of foundation. Your current shade or one shade lighter will work, paired with a shade that is one to two shades darker. Don’t go past 2 shades darker or you may end up looking unnaturally tan or orange.

Powder foundation is best for beginners, but you’ll eventually want to upgrade to liquid foundation. Foundation sticks work as well. Just make sure that your foundation or concealer is matte. Save the shimmer for highlighting and touch ups. You’ll also need a blending sponge or brush to blend the different shades of makeup together.

The placement of the darker and lighter shades of foundation on your face will vary depending on its shape. That’s because the sunlight hits different face shapes in different places, and the point of a contour is to have a natural glow that sculpts the shape of your face.

Map where the sun naturally hits your face with your lighter shade. Generally, this covers the top of your nose, forehead, chin, and the apples of your cheeks from the ears to your nose.

Then use a little of your darker shade to map around those areas. Place a little concealer or bronzer at the top of your forehead at your hair line, on the outside of your nose, under your cheeks but don’t trace them fully, place a little along your jawline, and the outside of your chin.

Remember with your darker shade of foundation, less is more to avoid looking an unflattering shade of tan or orange. Start off with very small amounts until you get more comfortable with contouring. The entire process does take a little bit of practice.

Another technique is to use your lighter shade of foundation to create a base on your entire face, then mapping out your face with the darker shade and blending it in. You can practice these different techniques to figure out which one works best for you.

Once you have your face mapped out it’s time to blend baby blend. You can use an angled or flat brush in a sweeping motion going back and forth to blend, or a wet makeup sponge or blender. Simply avoid blending in circles because your face should go from light to dark, or circles could result in exactly that, circles. Be sure to go past the jawline and blend onto your neck to make sure that your face and neck are the same color.

Your goal is to make sure that you don’t have any harsh lines. Also, after you’re finished blending you can use a little highlighter and shimmer to touch up your cheeks and eyes. Most people pair contours with light shades of all natural pink blushes and lipsticks.

Once you’re finished you have the option of setting your face with a translucent powder or setting spray to help your flawless look last longer.

Oh Girl, That Contour Though!

Contouring may seem like an intimidating task to conquer in the beauty world, but in reality, it’s a very simple technique to pull off. Just don’t overdo it and be sure to really blend your concealers. Once you get your contouring skills down you can show them off at your makeup parties to push more products!

Spring Wedding Makeup Trends

It’s one of the most exciting times of the year because along with spring comes wedding season. Even if you’re single or you’ve been married awhile, admit it, wedding trends are still fun to check out! Maybe you’re even in an upcoming wedding soon! Embrace your inner girl and check out the hottest spring makeup styles for 2017 weddings. Maybe you can even use a few of these trends to push your makeup sales.

Spring 2017 Wedding Makeup Trends

Part of being a beautiful bride is having an enchanting glow about you, after all, it is your day. To achieve this, brides are going back to basics with all natural looks. Simple makeup will make you feel more comfortable, especially if you aren’t used to wearing a lot.

Plus, you never want to go bold or try something new before a big event, because if you do the look wrong or it doesn’t turn out looking right then it’s too late. You’ll be looking off in all of your photos.

Wedding days aren’t the time for tons of glitter unless you have a 70’s theme. However, a little shimmer in your highlights can give you an excellent glow. Use a highlighter on your cheeks where the sun naturally hits your face for breathtaking glow.

Also, to enhance your glow highlight or add a little shimmer to the inner corner of your eyes, doing so will give you a bright and awake look. Unfortunately, wedding days are exhausting, so this is a great way to cover how tired you feel. To modernize this look use shades of gold or metallic silver.

Speaking of eyes, it’s trendy to put all of the attention on them. Full, bold brows are the way to go, along with subtle smokey eyes. Also, don’t forget about eyeliner. The cat eye and winged tips are in. To avoid making the eyes overpowered brides are flocking to eye shadow shades of golds, browns, peach, and pinks.

The trendy rebels are changing up traditional looks with shades of gold and metallic eyeliners. To be extra bold try walking down the aisle with white eyelashes. However, a nice set of black, thick false lashes will draw all the attention to your eyes that you need.

Blush these days is all about light warm shades for spring. Dusting a little pink over your cheeks will give you a warm, youthful glow with an elegant look. You don’t have to stick to just pink, try experimenting with shades of peach too.

Notice how we keep mentioning warm shades like pink? That’s because it matches the clean, warm feel that comes with spring. Also, that color trend continues with the lips. Brides are using soft and warm shades of pink. Depending on what you like, you can rock a matte or glossy shade.

Some ladies are letting their natural lip color shine with a shade of clear gloss. Other ladies are being bold by pulling off bright shades of red lip stains. Bold shades of red really work to add a vintage, elegant style to your look.

As far as foundation goes, make sure your skin looks fresh and dewy, like spring. You’ll need to be moisturized, but don’t over do it. Also, remember to highlight your cheeks and around your eyes!

We love the 2017 spring hair wedding trends! It’s all about braids, all types of braids! From straight long braids to weaving braids, and side braids. You can’t go wrong with a braid right now.

If you love the messy bun, good news, buns are in. Messy buns that frame the face, low buns, on top of the head buns, any bun you can think of!

For those who want to wear their hair down, wear it wild. Let your waves flow and don’t be afraid of a messy, knotted, bohemian look.

Rock 2017 Wedding Trends!

Spring is here and so is wedding season, so be sure to stay up to date with the new 2017 spring wedding trends! For more beauty tips visit UnitWise.com and share your 2017 spring wedding tips in the comment section below.
