How-to Tuesday: a Beginner’s Guide to Blogging with UnitWise
Why Start a Blog?
Starting your own blog can seem like a daunting task. After all, how does one even start a blog? Once it’s up and running, what will you write about? On this “How-to Tuesday,” we’re going to show you how you can start a blog with your UnitWise account.
How to Start a Blog
Before setting up your blog in your UnitWise account, you may want to ask yourself a few questions:1. What is your “why?”
To put it simply: why are you writing? It’s important to identify the reason for your blog before you begin writing. This will provide your blog with a direction so that it remains relevant and relatable to your audience. A strong sense of direction will make coming up with blog entries easier once you start writing.
2. Who are you writing for?
Is it intended to bring in new leads and customers? Or are you trying to keep your current customers coming back? Maybe you’re looking for a new way to keep your unit motivated. These are all great reasons to begin a blog and will help you identify who you want your audience to be.
3. When will you write and how often?
If you’re worried you don’t have the time to be consistent, start off slow. If you can only publish two blogs within your first month, don’t worry! The important thing is that you’ve started and now you have a foundation to work off of.
Even if you’re only posting bi-monthly, try to be consistent with when you are posting. For example, if you decide to post weekly, try to post on the same day each week. If your audience notices you post a blog every Monday afternoon, they’ll begin expecting your post.
Blogging in UnitWise
You have the ability to edit and leave comments on previously published blog posts. Additionally, under your “Blogs” tab you can manage your Blog Dashboard, view your blog categories, manage blog settings, add a post, or see how your blog appears on your UnitWise Website.
Publish a Blog Post
Give your new post a title and a body. Within the body of your post, you are able to paste from Word and paste as plain text. You also have the option to change the font and color of your text. Personalize your blog post by adding images, tables, and emojis to the body of your text.
At the bottom of your post, UnitWise will automatically generate a “slug” based on the title of your blog. This is the part of the web page’s address that appears after the domain name. For example, if your website’s address is “www.yourname.com” and the title of your blog is “MK Spring Release,” your slug will also be “MK Spring Release,” resulting in a web address of: www.yourname.com/MK/spring/release.
When you post a blog, you have the option to choose a category, post tags, and choose whether your audience can or cannot leave comments.
