Recreate Your Favorite Red Carpet Looks With An Oscar Party

This Sunday is the 86th Academy Awards, and a perfect time to have an Oscar Makeover Party! Global Makeover Day will be here March 8th, so an Oscar Makeover Party would be good practice to perfect your application techniques. Get together with your friends and recreate your favorite looks from past red carpet moments. You can go simple, yet elegant….or full on glam!

       Glamour

Alicia Keys looked glamorous at the 2009 Oscars in this Armani Prive gown. Her makeup look would be easy to recreate, for one it was done with Mary Kay products and for two, the application is light and glamorous at the same time. To recreate this look:

Eyes - Use a light shade on the eyes and a highlight with shimmer on the inner corners. Apply black liquid liner (like MK Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black) to the upper lash line and gradually make the line thicker from the middle of the lash line to the outer corners. This will make your eyes look bigger. Then simply line the bottom lash line and finish with mascara ( we recommend MK Ultimate Mascara).

Face - To finish the face apply your favorite foundation and set with powder. Lightly sweep a pink shade of blush across the apples of your cheeks and along the cheekbone.

Lips - A subtle pink would be great because a lot of focus is being drawn to the eye. The lips should compliment this your look, not overpower it.

Sandy B was stunning in her Marchesa silver beaded gown. Her make up was actually not suppose to be so bold but when her makeup artist was showing her some new lipsticks, she could not resist that beautiful red with light hints of pink she wore on Oscar night. To recreate this look:

Eyes - Use a grey or silver eyeshadow on the outer corners and soften around the top and bottom lids with a brown color. Softly line the eyes with a black liner and finish with mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Face - After applying your foundation, lightly apply a pink blush to the apples of your cheeks. To warm up the face, apply a light bronzer with a big fluffy brush all over the face. It will create a subtle glow.

Lips - Apply your favorite bold lipstick in a dabbing motion and blot well. It is up to you if you would like to use lip liner or not. For Sandy’s look, the makeup artist did not apply lip liner, so it looks like Sandy applied it herself. It creates an effortless look.

Was ScarJo just not radiant in her magenta Dolce & Gabbanna gown at the 2011 Oscars. She did the smokey eye perfectly, and kept it simple with lipstick and blush. The smokey eye can take some practice, but with a little time anyone can become an expert. The key to a smokey eye is lightly applying a shadow and blending, then applying and blending until your reach your desired look. To recreate ScarJo’s brown smokey eye look:

Eyes - Apply a dark brown to the lash line and beneath the eye line with an angle brush. Then apply a copper hue to the lid and blend a bronzer color in crease and right above it. Line the inner corner with a gold shimmer shade and apply a few coats of mascara to top and bottom lashes.

Face - A light foundation like MK’s tinted moisturizer would work great for this look. The skin will have a dewy glow to it. Use bronzer as your blush for this one and lightly apply it to cheekbones.

Lips - A light pink gloss is all you need. A nude lip would work great with this look too. With whatever color you choose, just keep it light, the main focus are the eyes and a bold shade would be too much.

There are so many fabulous looks you can recreate or innovate from past Oscar Red Carpet moments. An Oscar party would be an exciting way to go glam with Mary Kay and spend time with all your girls. Have fun this weekend watching the Oscars and share your makeup looks on Facebook with UnitWise.

Interview with Senior Sales Director - Debra Bishop

We had the pleasure of speaking with Senior Sales Director - Debra Bishop from Kissimee Florida. She revealed to our V.P. of Digital Media - Charles Hardy, how she started with Mary Kay and her amazing fight against Breast Cancer, calling it her Joyful Journey.

Charles: How did you start your MK business?

Debra: 27 years ago my husband and I were on vacation at a resort in Florida and my children were 5 and 9 at the time. I had some friends come for a visit, and I'll never forget, my friend that was a flight attendant was doing Mary Kay. I did not believe that and said - "in'dt that nice" - they say that in the south to be polite. My friend later invited me to meek MK Directors and - being polite - I agreed and that's how it all started. Back then, rules were different: you needed to earn a car before becoming a director, so I went on target to earn my car and in 7 months I became a Sales Director.

Charles: How did UnitWise help you in your MK business?

Debra: UnitWise offers the best customer service than any other company I ever dealt with. Just as MK takes care of all skin care needs, UnitWise takes care of all aspects of MK business, everything is in one spot.

Charles: A little back story on how this interview came to be - Glenn went to visit your event Jump Start, the event you have become very famous for, and we wanted to know more.

Debra: I don't know if famous is a great word, but it has been happening for 18 years now. The first year, 21 people attended, and we kinda started to max out at 170 people now - just so everyone can get in. The kitchen staff is what makes it different, it is a family affair: my mom (81 years old) and her twin, and their cousin cook for everyone ~ the food is great! The event is very comfortable and no dress code, a lot of fun: dance games, party with a purpose, and the big goal is to change the heart. The change has to be on the inside. Pretty good event...different, but good.

Charles: What car do you drive?

Debra: The Mustang, my 14th career car and proud to have it. Got away from the Cadillac this year due to lack of tracking. Track, track, everything please, accountability is important!

Charles: Tell us about your journey through breast cancer.

Debra: In 1999, I was going through a routine mammogram and I heard the news no woman wants to hear. I was recommended a mastectomy. I researched and worked with MK and some of the Nationals immediately got me to the cancer center in Dallas, TX. Mary Kay has a wing named after her there, and on the advice of the doctors there, I did not have a mastectomy, and that is going on 14 years now. I did end up having chemo and radiation; I call it my joyful journey ~ the Lord allowed em to do it so that I can bless other women. My advice is - You are at risk if you have breasts. I was the first woman in my family to be diagnosed; no history, no warning signs. Be smart and do your breast exams. There is an app called I Heart My Boobies, it reminds you once a month to do your breast exam.

Charles: Could you share one piece of advice for Mary Kay consultants?

Debra: One thing that I regret is that I was not consistent, so be consistent about tracking. Let this journey be joyful.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Do you know why flowers are traditionally given on Valentine’s Day?

You can get your significant other chocolates, jewelry, cards, or a special present but you should never forget the flowers. Roses have been a classic V-Day tradition for as long as we can remember, they symbolize love - encompassing the entire meaning of Valentine’s Day. The gift of roses started with the love story of Saint Valentine. While he was imprisoned and awaiting the ruling of his sentence, he fell in love with the warden’s daughter. Before he met his tragic fate on February 14, 269, he left his love a letter with a single red rose. So romantic...in a Romeo and Juliet kind of way. Giving roses is always the best way to go if you are not sure of what to get, but a simple bouquet of roses can be easily turned into creative works of art…

First a twist on the classic - Flower in Vase
The rainbow rose would definitely show any valentine they are loved.

Arrange roses in a hotbox or cute little suitcase to give a Parisian touch.

Don't red roses look amazing in a giant martini glass?

Make your valentine (gasp) and say Aww that is so sweet!, by making a bouquet with music to their favorite song, or a map of the world.

Combine the idea of roses and delicious cookies that is just divine!
