5 Simple Tips For Creating a Competitive Social Media Strategy

Mary Kay Director at her computer working a competitive social media strategy

It is no secret that behind any successful MK Director is a strong social media presence. Coincidence? How much time do you spend on social media on a daily basis? Too much, right? (Don’t worry I am right there with you). As a Director or Consultant, it is important to not only be pushing your products on social media but doing it efficiently. Here are 5 simple tips for creating a competitive social media strategy.

5 Simple Tips For Creating a Competitive Social Media Strategy

Just a word to the wise before we get started; there are so many ideas out there on how you can “trick” Facebook, but unfortunately, Zuckerberg’s creation is smart and way ahead of any scheme. I know it is tempting to “Gain 10,000 followers by downloading this app” or something along those lines, but the only way to connect with real potential clients is organically.

Post Socially Not Salesy

During your next sales promotion instead of using the premade or supplied graphic opt for an engaging image. The less you use MK graphic and logos on Facebook and other social media platforms the more you will engage and connect with potential and current clients.

Original graphics and verbiage will make your posts appear high on your followers feeds, and they are more likely to engage. Post a selfie with the new products or helping at your local charity. Or better yet go live at your next event!

Add a web link to your post that will lead clients to your webpage or use a call-to-action to encourage your clients.

Timing is Everything

Research the location of the majority of your clients to learn what days and times get the best engagement. Take notes over the course of a few weeks and tweak your content and post schedule. Is the best time early in the morning before they go to work or Sunday afternoon?

Get to know your audience and what days/times are best for getting views and traction.

Pros and Cons of Adding People to Your Group

Mary Kay Director in Qualification posting a picture of her makeup collection for a competitive social media strategy Hosting a contest or giveaway is a great way to increase your following at a rapid pace. It is true that adding people to your group is a quick and easy way to boost your virtual client base, but in reality, it does two things.

  • First: It is sad to say, but some of the people added to your group have no interest and were irritated about being added.

  • Second: Your Facebook group or page numbers are huge, but the engagement continues to be super low following the giveaway.

My advice is never to host a giveaway to add members to your group. Only invite those who would be interested in MK and encourage your current members to do the same. It will be slow going, but it will be genuine organic growth that will prove beneficial in the long run.

Be Engaging

Let’s be honest there are lots of makeup brands and MK consultants who are trying to reach your clients. Your biggest challenge is adding value to already marvelous products to keep your community coming back. An excellent way for you to add value to your business is by offering makeup advice and tutorials.

Start small, each week build on what you did the previous week. As your posts gain interest and people start commenting be sure to reply and engage with your clients; it will make a huge difference. Show your clients you are watching, interested, and you care about them.
