The Best Summer Skin Care Advice

As much as we all love summer, the heat can wreak havoc on your skin. This can lead to dark spots, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. However, your friends at UnitWise have some expert advice on beating the heat this summer and keeping your skin beautiful. Here’s the best summer skincare advice.

The Best Summer Skin Care Advice

The idea of transitioning between seasons goes well beyond your wardrobe and changing out your color palette. Summer requires an entirely new skincare routine. Ensure that every inch of your skin is ready before hitting the beach this summer.

1. Moisturize

Moisturizing your skin is absolutely essential during summer. You may be tempted to skip this part of your routine now that winter is over, but this would be a mistake. The extreme heat of summer dehydrates not only your body but causes dry skin. Dry skin is more prone to damage, and you need to build up protection to make up for any lost moisture. The moisturizer also serves as a barrier against bacteria, pollutants, and sunburns.

When choosing a moisturizer this summer, find one that is either gel or water-based, preferably containing Vitamin E. This will help to keep your skin damage-free and supple. Also, lay off the scalding hot showers. Hot showers can quickly dehydrate your skin. Next time you hop in the shower turn the temperature down about 10 degrees.

2. Exfoliate

For any treatment or cream to work you need to have clean skin. So this requires you to exfoliate regularly to clear away any dead skin cells and unclog any built-up pores. Exfoliating also helps to make your face a better canvas when it comes to applying makeup.

However, by no means am I telling you to exfoliate every day. That could lead to breakouts, redness, or even rashes which I am sure none of us have time for this summer. Try to exfoliate your skin two or at most three times a week using a gentle circular motion. Do this at night right before you go to bed. I don’t suggest exfoliating right before going outside because your skin is more vulnerable to irritation right after.

3. Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate

I honestly cannot say this tip enough. Drink water and lots of it. During the summer months, you will sweat causing your skin and cells to lose water quickly. To maintain adequate moisture levels and not feel weak you need to review your daily water intake. Drink lots of water throughout the day and add lots of fresh fruits and juices to your diet. If you are a soda lover like myself, be aware, that sugar causes your body to lose water. Be sure to keep this in mind during a hot summer day.
