4 ways to get More Sales as a Beauty Consultant

How are your sales for 2016 going? As an NSD, director, or independent beauty consultant the sky's the limit, and you can always up your game. In the beauty consulting world, there is always another rung on the ladder to climb in order to reach new levels of success.

With a little hard work and motivation, your sales will go through the roof, especially with the help of the following tips.

1. Offer a Referral Program

Have you ever received an email stating that if you get 3 or more of your friends to sign up for something then you’ll get a free item? These emails serve as an effective marketing tool that not only gets your attention but also gets the attention of your friends because often times people will try to refer their friends to get a reward.

Referral programs a marketing technique that gets loyal customers to suggest your products and services to their friends and family members, leading to more sales and customers. Plus, the creative possibilities for referral programs are endless. Use your creative juices to come up with new and interesting ways to get referrals.

For example, you can say that for every 4 friends that your client conveniences to come to a makeup party they’ll receive 15% off of their total order. Also, you could say for every 3 friends they get to signup for your email blasts they’ll receive a free shade of lipgloss.

2. Be Honest

People aren’t interested in hour long back stories or amazing claims about makeup, like this product will ‘make you look 15 years younger!’ Instead, people will respond better when you cut to the chase, with straight forward facts.

Remember that attention spans are brief, so tell your clients about new products and special deals before their attention turns to their friends or the snacks and beverages at your makeup party.

Also, by telling people what makeup can realistically do, like concealer can cover blemishes, their confidence will build and they’ll be more likely to buy.

3. Prep Your Promotions

You never know when an opportunity to promote your business will strike. While in the grocery store, or out to dinner you may hear people discussing their makeup needs, so be prepared to jump in with your business card to hand out to them. By giving people your business card they’ll have your business name and contact information all in one place.

Also, by taking a few minutes to plan out your online promotions for the week you can create a promotion plan involving emails, and social media. Simply create your email promotion or social media

post in advance and schedule them to go out in different ways. This way you don’t have to spend time working on daily posts.

4. Organize Workshops

To build trust and grow a larger customer base sometimes it’s best to provide with informational content instead of pushing sales 110% of the time. If people remember you as a valuable source of knowledge then they’ll keep coming back with questions and you can convert them into repeat customers.

Set up workshops to teach clients about your products and how to be successful. Facebook live and YouTube are excellent outlets for makeup videos and tutorials. Also, you can post your content on all of your social media and personal websites to promote yourself and your business.

Simple Makeup Tips for Beginners

As an NSD, director, or independent beauty consultant we know that you’re on your game. You’re an established makeup pro, with a flawless face fit for the beauty consultant big league. However, even though makeup may have come naturally to you, and you’ve enjoyed it as a hobby, it just doesn’t come simply to some people.

As you throw makeup parties and spend time with individuals for personal consultations you’ll run into more makeup beginners than you expect. By taking the time to explain simple makeup tips to them you’ll build their confidence and could even turn them into lifelong customers.

Follow the easy makeup tips below to teach your potential clients everything they need to know about makeup.

Foundation and Highlights

It’s a natural instinct to think that foundation is the first item that you apply, but actually, it’s important to wash your face first, to scrub away dead skin cells, for smooth, even skin. Next, it’s time to apply moisturizer and let it dry.

Then you may think you’re foundation ready, but there is actually another step involving primer, which people who are new to makeup often don’t know about. Primer is a cream or serum that smooths the skin and fills in lines and pores so you can put on your foundation evenly. It also makes your makeup last longer during the day.

Once your primer dries it’s time to apply foundation with a brush or sponge. Make sure your shade of foundation matches your skin by testing it on your cheeks. The right shade will blend right in.

Apply your foundation by putting a little of it onto a sponge or brush and gently dab it on your skin while blending it in with small circles. Start around your nose and work your way outwards and remember to blend past your jawline so your face matches your neck.

If foundation feels too heavy or cakey a BB or ‘blemish balm’, which is a lighter tinted cream that will give your face the coverage you want.

After you put on your foundation or BB cream use a concealer, which has more of a pigmented color to cover any blemishes, pimples, or dark spots. Also, use concealer under your eyes to cover any discoloration.

Bronzer can be a little intimidating, at first, but it’s actually quite simple to use and will give your skin a sunkissed look. When picking a shade don’t go too dark, especially if you have light skin. Then use it in the shape of a 3 on your face, start at the temple, then go to the jaw bone, and finally the chin and blend it in. You can also use primer on your nose and jawline to highlight your face.

Finally, set your makeup with a translucent powder so your foundation will last all day without a heavy, cakey look.

All About Blush

As newcomers approach blush they often have a ton of questions, like what color they should use, or where exactly does blush go? Luckily these questions are easy to answer.

First, you need to decide your preference between liquid, cream, or powder blush. The cream form is growing in popularity because it helps to moisturize and hydrate skin.

When it comes to color people with fair skin should stick with light shades of pink and coral, people with medium should like for brighter shades of pink, bronze pink, and peach. People with darker complexions can experiment with bright magentas, purples, and oranges. Beginners should stick with matte colors before testing out shades with shimmer or glitter.

Once you’re ready to apply your blush put a little on the end of a brush and gently apply it at the end of your cheekbone. Blend it with small circles and work you way forward to cover the apple of your cheek. Your blush should go diagonally along your cheekbone, but it should never go past your nostrils.

Blend your blush to make sure that there are no hard lines, and if you put too much on, don’t panic. Simply add a little more foundation or concealer over your blush.

Perfect Eyes

Usually, people who aren’t used to makeup don’t like objects around their eyes, so eyeliner can be daunting. If nothing else, push mascara because it’s easy to apply and will make your eyes bigger and brighter.

Generally, when beginning with eyeliner the pencil form is the easiest to use, but it does take practice to master a steady hand to draw eyeliner across the top lid. You can simplify the process by making dots across your eyelid and then connecting them.

If some of your clients want to jump right out of the gate with liquid eyeliner that looks as perfect as Adele’s advise them to use a stencil until they master a steady hand.

To tackle eyeshadow newbies need a palette full of matte Earth tones to play with until they become comfortable with bolder colors. Lighter shades go around the inner corners of the eye, and along the brow bone. Medium shades go in the eyelid crease, and dark shades go in the lower corners.

Most of the time eyebrows get forgotten, even though they’re an important part of the face. Recommend using an eyebrow pencil to fill in thin brows, and eyebrow gel to hold them in place.

Flawless Lips

We honestly don’t know why lipstick intimidates new users, it’s easy to put on and it’s hard to pick the wrong color. The safest way to experiment with new colors is with lipstick. Plus, they have shades of lipstick with matte, shimmering, and glossy finishes, the possibilities are endless.

Simply start by applying chapstick to hydrate your lips and to exfoliate dead skin away so you’ll be able to trace your lips for a smooth finish.

Lip gloss is alternative with more natural color. It also has a lighter weight to it than lipstick, doesn’t stain teeth, and even comes in scented varieties to give your face a good scent. However, lipstick generally lasts longer than lipgloss.

With lip liner, the trick is to use a sharp pencil and warm it up by drawing a little on your wrist, so it will easily glide on. You can use a nude color to enhance your natural look or shades of pink and red to compliment your lipstick. Trace the outside of lips, then add your lipstick and blend your lip liner and lipstick together with a lipstick brush. As a result, your two-toned lips will appear bigger.

For a pop of subtle color, you can put a clear gloss over your lips. Also, a coat of clear gloss will provide a nice shine help your lipstick last longer during the day.

Don't Make These Foundation Mistakes

Foundation is an essential part of makeup, and it can make or break your look. When applied incorrectly, it can look cakey, too powdery, or even have the wrong color. Lucky for you, we have a few foundation tips about what not to do that will transform you from a rookie to foundation pro.

Find The Right Shade of Foundation

When finding the right shade of foundation for your skin don’t check it’s shade under florescent lighting. Test it near a bright window where natural light flows in. Natural light will help you determine if you have the right shade of foundation or not.

Also, don’t test foundation by putting it on the back of your hand. Generally, the skin on your hands has a different complexion than the skin on your face. Be sure to test your foundation on your jawline, if it disappears on your skin then you have the right shade.

Never try to fake a sun-kissed tan with foundation. If you use a shade that's too dark for your skin you may end up looking like an Oompa Loompa. Trust us, you’ll look amazing with a foundation that simply matches your skin tone.

However, when in doubt pick a shade just slightly darker than your skin tone, and never go lighter. If you go too light you may end up looking like a panda with a light face and dark body.

Don’t Keep the Same Foundation for too Long

All makeup can expire, but sometimes you have up to a year before they do. Even if you have a year to use your foundation, you may not want to keep it that long, because as air interacts with foundation it can oxidize and change shades. Most older foundations start to turn orange over time.

Also, you need to change your foundation with the seasons. During the summer, when it’s humid you can probably get away with a powder foundation, but in the winter when it’s dryer it’s time to switch to a liquid formula to keep your skin hydrated.

Keep in mind that your skin tone changes during the year. You may need a darker foundation shade in the summer, and a lighter one in the winter.

Be Properly Prepared

Before putting foundation on, make sure that you’ve done the proper prep work. Start off by washing your face and exfoliating your skin, to wash away dead skin cells, so your foundation can be more evenly applied.

If you use a moisturizer let it dry out before putting your foundation on. If you don’t let it dry first then your foundation could end up looking uneven with streaks.

Consider using a primer prior to applying your foundation, because primer will fill your pores and wrinkles, leading to a smoother face. Plus, primer will help your foundation last longer throughout the day. Simply remember to let your primer dry first, like your moisturizer.

Have the right tools on deck, whether you prefer to have a sponge or makeup brush, go ahead and have them ready. Keep in mind that the bristles should be synthetic, never use animal hair bristles with liquids.

Apply Your Foundation Correctly

Never put foundation on with your fingers, because it will often look uneven as a result. Plus, putting your fingers on your face can introduce your skin to new bacteria and lead to acne as a result.

When using a sponge slowly dab your foundation on, and when using a brush, apply your foundation by rubbing it on your skin with small circles.

To avoid a thick and cakey look, don’t put too much makeup on your face, a light layer will be best. Also, remember to blend your foundation to give your face an all natural look. When blending, remember to focus on the areas of your face that need the most coverage, like around your nose and eyes.

Don’t stop blending at your jawline! Be sure to blend your foundation under your jawline and on your neck to make sure that your face matches your neck.

Once your foundation is evenly applied and blended set it with a translucent powder so your flawless look will stay intact all day. Avoid tinted powders that could throw off the shade of your foundation.

Be a Foundation Pro

Use your skills to have a flawless look daily. Also, if you’re a NSD, director, or independent beauty consultant be sure to teach new clients all about the proper foundation techniques while at makeup parties or events.

Plus, you can use UnitWise, the all-in-one beauty consultant solution to keep track of your business and inventory, so you can always make sure that you have foundations, brushes, and sponges available in your inventory.

The Secret to Sculpting Perfect Eyebrows

Alright, there are two things near your forehead that if crafted correctly can create a flawless frame for your face, and if crafted incorrectly can look like two wild caterpillars. What are these things? Your eyebrows!

Eyebrows may seem like a small feature of your face, but they can really make or break your look. Use the following tips to make sure your brows are on point.

The Prep

Don’t make the rookie mistake of going straight in to pluck wild eyebrow hairs, be sure to have a plan put in place first. Take an eyebrow brush and brush your brows up and over, then take a long look at your eyebrows to see where they need to be plucked.

It’s important to shape them with a natural-looking arch, so they don’t look like two fuzzy straight lines. The beginning of each eyebrow should align with the bridge of your nose, and the top of its arch should align with the outside of your pupil while looking straight forward. The end of each eyebrow should go slightly past the corner of your eye, and shouldn’t be longer than your brow bone.

Now that you have a guide for the perfect brow shape you can use an eyebrow pencil to trace the bottom of your eyebrow where you plan to pluck hairs. Remember, only pluck from the bottom, as plucking from the top can make your eyebrows look too thin.

If you still feel nervous about where to pluck hairs or over plucking, you can get an eyebrow stencil to trace the exact eyebrow shape you want.

The Process

So, ideally, you should be sitting down to work on your brows once a week. Working on them daily won’t produce noticeable changes, and if you wait longer than a week your brows could become bushy and wild, depending on their growth rate.

We are aware that plucking your eyebrows can hurt, but don’t worry we have some tips to help you avoid pain.

First, make sure your tweezers are nice and sharp. It can be harder to pull out hair with dull tweezers, which could lead to pain. Cleaning your tweezers with rubbing alcohol and letting them dry in between uses helps them stay sharp for a longer period of time. Also, you can sharpen tweezers by carefully rubbing them on a nail file.

It’s best to pluck your eyebrows right after a hot shower, because the warm water and steam open your pores, making it easier to pull out hairs. If you don’t have time to shower before plucking, take a cloth and soak it in warm water, then hold it to your eyebrows for a few minutes.

Hold your skin taught and start plucking and pull your hair out in the direction that it’s growing, never go against the grain. Also, be sure to remove any random hairs hanging around your forehead and temples.

Don’t become obsessed with having perfectly symmetrical eyebrows, that mirror one another. It takes years of practice to master the art of equally proportional brows. Keep in mind that each brow is different and it's hardly noticeable if they both aren’t exactly the same.

Slow down! Remember to pull your head away from your mirror after every few plucks to make sure you’re staying on track for the perfect brow shape.

If you experience any redness, pain, or swelling apply ice to the area to relieve any discoloration or discomfort.

When you find a hair that is too long but don’t want to remove it completely use an eyebrow brush to pull the hair upwards and to hold it still, so you can snip it with eyebrow scissors.

Quick Fixes

Let’s face it, accidents happen. Even the most skilled eyebrow masters have over-plucked, and a few of us have had needle thin brows by accident. Luckily, there are simple solutions that solve eyebrow mishaps.

If your brows seem like their width is too thin, or that they have gaps in them fill them in with an eyebrow pencil. All you have to do is find a shade that matches your hair color and gently fill your brows.

However, remember that using too much color could result in your brows looking waxy or greasy. Also, be sure to blend the color, so your eyebrows will look natural, and not flat. Along with an eyebrow pencil, you can use eyebrow powder, eyebrow shadow, or eyebrow mascara to fill in your brows.

When you spot new short eyebrow hairs starting to grow, but they aren’t tall enough to be plucked, you don’t have to run to the salon to have your brows waxed. Instead, you can cover them up with concealer.

We’ve all had issues with keeping our eyebrows in their place. Activities as simple as moving bangs out of your face or adjusting your sunglasses can send perfect brows into a wild frenzy. Prevent them from moving with a little eyebrow gel that will keep them in place all day long. You can even get tinted eyebrow gel to fill in gaps with color as the gel takes hold.

From Perfect Brows to More Sales

Now that you’re a professional eyebrow wrangler and beauty consultant, when throwing makeup parties or doing demos spread the word about eyebrow care so the everyday woman can have the perfect brow look.

Also, use UnitWise, the total business management solution to keep up with the eyebrow products in your inventory, to make email marketing campaigns about eyebrow care, to tell your unit members to push eyebrow products, and much more! With UnitWise, you and your amazing eyebrows will be ready to take your business to the next level.
