How to Pick The Best Eyeliner For You

There is actually a lot more to consider when choosing an eyeliner than you would think. There are just so many different types! We have liquid eyeliner, pencil eyeliner, gel eyeliner and that is not to mention the different colors or applications. So how do you pick the best eyeliner for you and your customers?

How to Pick The Best Eyeliner For You

All the choices have your mind swimming? Don’t worry, your friends at UnitWise have your back! Today we are going to break it down from liquid to pencil and explain what each type is good for.

Here is everything you need to know about the different types of eyeliner and how to pick the best eyeliner for you and your customers.

Best Gel Eyeliner

What it is for:

While gel eyeliner might seem fairly intimidating at first it is worth trying. Especially if you are a fan of cat eyes.

How to apply:

Gel eyeliner comes in a small paint pot and usually comes with a brush. The best eyeliner brush to use for this type of eyeliner is angled.

What I love about it:

It is really easy to get a nice clean and precise line. The thick cream consistency is easy to work with and I can change up the lines by using a different brush. So point being gel eyeliner is easy to work with for a sharp look.

What I don’t like about it:

If you are traveling and forget to bring a brush you are frankly up a creek at that point. Trust me, I know this from experience. You will need to clean the brush regularly to avoid the chance of an eye infection. Also, gel eyeliner is more prone to drying out.

Best Liquid Eyeliner

What it is for:

Just like gel eyeliner liquid is great for sharp clean lines that swoop, flick, or simply stand out. If you are going for a very delicate and precise look I would go for liquid eyeliner.

How to apply:

A liquid eyeliner comes in several different forms, but I would go with the marker-type. It is easier to use. Whip out your liquid eyeliner and draw the shape and design you want.

What I love about it:

The brushes or applicators are really thin so it is possible to get subtle lines and intricate designs. Also, unlike gel, the applicator is attached so there is no need to keep up with a brush.

What I don’t like about it:

Liquid eyeliner can be delicate and beautiful or it could go horribly wrong. This is by no means meant to deter you from going with liquid eyeliner but it will take practice. Precise application is difficult and takes time to master. But in the meantime it is messy. Have your q-tips ready.

To avoid looking like a raccoon halfway through the day go with waterproof liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara.

Best Pencil Eyeliner

What it is for:

Who doesn’t love a smokey eye??? And a pencil eyeliner is the champ at this look; plain and simple.

How to apply:

Use it like a pencil. Simply trace along your top and lower the last line and gently smudge. For a little added color, you can add pencil eyeliner to your waterline. (Never put liquid or gel liner on your waterline)

What I love about it:

Pencil eyeliner is perfect for a simple everyday look. It is fast, easy, and simple.

What I don’t like about it:

Precision is out the window completely. This is a mess look so if that is not your cup of tea you will want to use a gel or waterproof liquid eyeliner. Keeping the pencils sharpened is also a slight pain or if you opt for a twist pencil they will go blunt rather quickly.

Also, fair warning, you will occasionally run into one that is far too sharp and pointy for that close to your eyes.
