The holiday season is in full swing and in just a few short weeks the year will come to an end. So now is a perfect opportunity to look back at the beauty trends of 2017 we never saw coming. This year we have seen an utterly massive amount of new trends that mesmerize, enchant, and sometimes horrify us.

While some trends are sure to follow us into 2018 we can only hope and pray most will fall off the face of the earth before we can refresh our Instagram feeds. While I can not claim to be a fan of all of the latest trends, there is no denying that some are genuinely fascinating.

So without further ado, here are the beauty trends of 2017 we never saw coming.

Sticking Things on Your Face

I honestly have no idea where to begin with this trend. From pearls, gems, flowers, stickers, glitter, stones, and now stars. Its official gluing things to your face in 2017 is not only cool but in fashion. Even though most of us learned this was a bad idea in grammar school some have decided to give it another go. Embrace your inner child and try out this trend before 2018.




Fascinating Eyebrows

If the eyes are the window to your soul, then the eyebrows are the curtains. I am a huge fan of the fuller more natural eyebrows of 2017. From the catwalk to the office, women are sporting more natural-looking arched brows. This trend is a welcomed transition from the pencil-thin brows of the early 2010’s and 2016’s exaggerated arches.

By this point you have already been inundated with the onslaught of brow trends this year has had to offer and you have been an excellent trooper through it all. From barbed wire, squiggle, bleached, and craved eyebrows, we have indeed seen it all. However, 2017 is not over yet, and spiked eyebrows just made their appearance on our feeds. This trend can only leave one asking, what is next?

Fantastical Creature Invasion

This year we have all experienced the unicorn phenomenon (Invasion) that somehow infiltrated all forms of our lives from bagels, frappuccinos, hair, nails, makeup, and everything else imaginable. Then as the year quickly progressed we were introduced to make other mythical creature inspired trends, most prominently mermaids.

I can unequivocally state that this year is officially the year of mythical creature beauty trends. From mermaid hair, glitter galore, mermaid-inspired makeup, mermaid rhinestone-studded nails, and just when we think we are free of the mermaid trend the internet brings forth mermaid eyelashes. Nope, I promise I could not make this up.

So what are mermaid lashes? They are multi-colored lashes that are supposed to represent the colorful and full ombre glory that is mermaid eyes. Moreover, to answer your question, yes they are trending.

Everything Else:

Honestly, I could spend days writing about all the beauty and makeup trends we have seen this year, but I just wanted to cover the most unusual. For the last trend, I only have three words: nose hair extensions-- you are killing me.

You might consider this post slightly premature but let's think back to last tax season? Did you wait until the last possible moment or were you prepared? Well, thankfully you have UnitWise on your side helping you prepare invoices, track sales, expense reports, and more.

1. Update Account, Expenses, and Income

As a UnitWise member, you have access to tons of accounts and reporting features that keep up with all your expenses. We offer premade accounts and reports that calculate your commission and saving, but at any time you can create additional reports that fit your needs.

For example, you can create reports based on your checking, credit amounts, or monthly bills. Within your account click edit in the action tab and enter the new expenses or change the balance of each account to manage your bills, expenses, and income.

Our Trip Logs feature allows you to track your travel expenses making it easier to manage tax information. Enter the details of your trips by clicking Account then Trip Logs within your UnitWise account.

2. Sales Receipts and Invoices

When a customer pays in full for an order, a receipt is created, and an invoice will be generated if a customer places an order without paying. UnitWise users can generate an invoice by clicking on invoices within their account. Here you will be given a list of your customers with all their information. Once the customer has been selected, enter the product names, quantity, and sales total. From here your inventory on hand will automatically be updated to reflect.

3. Manage Inventory on Hand

Import your inventory orders directly from InTouch using your UnitWise account. You can import orders up to 45 days after shipping. This transfer will take place in the background of your UnitWise account so you can continue to manage other aspects of your MK business.

As you update or create invoices or sales receipts, your inventory levels will automatically update based on your products sold.

4. Personal Use and Demo Products

Track your inventory items under the Customer Center. Here you can view the purchase history of each of your clients. In addition to customers, you can create an account labeled Personal Use or Demo Products. You can then generate an invoice for that specific statement and view the total amount of products used.

5. Year-End-Tax Report

After you have reviewed your account information for accuracy you can then go to your account Home > Reports and run all reports in the Year End/Tax Section for your fiscal year. Remember that your Personal Use/Demo/Donations can be used as tax write-offs.

Learn How to Prepare and Care for Winter Skin


Winter is coming! And let’s face facts, it's not good for your skin. Between harsh winds, frigid temperatures, and dropping humidity levels your skin can be sap of its natural oils, leaving it dry and scaly. Use this season as an opportunity to educate your clients! As they start to pull out their winter wardrobes, encourage clients to adjust their daily skin care regimens to prevent seasonal beauty blunders. 1. Adjust Your Routine

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope you have an absolutely amazing day celebrating with your family and friends. It is the perfect time to remember all those you are thankful for this year.

Thanksgiving is a very special time of year for all of those within the MK community. It was MK’s founder Mary Kay Ash’s favorite holiday, and we reflect on her legacy by giving thanks for our many blessings.

Today I will be cooking and eating up a storm today, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you that the whole UnitWise family and I are so grateful for all of you. I feel so lucky to be writing for such a wonderful, Christian, and kind community such as MK. You inspire me each and every day to be and do better.

Packing Tips and Tricks That Will Change Your Life


Are you looking forward to a special getaway and/or family get-togethers this week?! Traveling over the next week might be slightly stressful…. I can already see your eyes rolling in agreement. Wednesday is supposedly the busiest travel day of the year. While I cannot help you get home faster or make your kids stop fighting in the backseat, I can share packing tips and tricks that might very well change your life!

Packing Tips and Tricks That Will Change Your Life

1. Roll Your Clothes

Instead of folding your clothes roll this for faster packing and maximizing your space. Only fold your delicate and easily wrinkles clothes.

2. Cover Your Footwear

No one wants his or her dirty shoes (Or foot smell) on his or her clean clothes. Keep your shoes off your clothes by placing them in a bag or a shower cap.

3. Try Two for One

Pack two tops for every bottom. You are much more likely to re-wear a pair of pants then a top. So avoid over packing and pack two different tops for every bottom. This holiday season packs a light and dark pair of denim jeans to go with any occasion.

4. Inside Out

Another great way to avoid wrinkles and prevent statins is to pack your clothes inside out. This way if there is any debris or dirt in your bag your clothes will be safe.

5. Heavy Items on Bottom

Pack all of your heaviest items closest to the wheels of your bag. When you are packing a rolling bag, you must consider how your items will react to that position and motion. The number one rule for keeping everything in place and keeping it upright without holding it is keeping all heavy items near the wheels, so the weight is evenly distributed.

6. Laundry Freshness

Don’t you just love the smell of fresh laundry out of the dryer? Well, this holiday travel season pack a few dryer sheet in the bottom and top of your suitcase. This will keep your clothes smelling clean like they came fresh out of the dryer.

7. All Liquids in a Plastic Bag

I honestly can not tell you how important this is. I have learned from personal experience more than once to pack all liquid makeup bottles, lotions, shampoo, and anything else in plastic bags to avoid leaks. Trust me the last thing you need to worry about on Thanksgiving is your favorite shirt being ruined before meeting the in-laws. Plus you will be able to see everything in one place without digging through your suitcase.

8. Recyclable Tote

Pack a recyclable tote for a day trip or to separate your dirty laundry from your clean clothes for the trip home.

9. Control Your Cords

Completely avoid the tangled mess of various wires by rolling them up tightly in a sunglass case. It is super easy to open/close, pack and they will not be going anywhere. This is also a great way to pack your jewelry.

10. Car Trash Can

This trick is especially perfect for those of you traveling with young children or long distance trips. Use a plastic cereal container as your car’s trash can and avoid scattered trash. The last thing you want is bottles and fast food bags falling out of the car when meeting the family.

Tara Geraghty decided to move her holiday open house online because her clients were spread out all over the country. Within the first eight years of her MK career, she moved seven times to over three states. When she moved back to her home state of New Jersey, she discovered that she was still an hour or two hours away from her clients because of traffic.

The distance and time made hosting a traditional open house difficult for her clients. However, she still wanted to share with all the fantastic new products MK had to offer. So she had the idea of turning her traditional open house into a virtual experience through Facebook.

How to Host an Open House Facebook Party:

If you have never done a Facebook party before, don’t worry it is super easy! Write out what you want to say for each step and product during your Facebook party.





  1. Create a Facebook event using your business profile
  2. Post product pictures, information, and links
  3. Send out Facebook invitations to your friends, family, and clients
  4. Encourage your invitees to post about your upcoming party
  5. Advertise about the event online in the days and weeks before the event
  6. Schedule an email marketing campaign using UnitWise

When inviting clients do not exceed 500 invites! Facebook will flag this action as spam. You are not inviting everyone on your friendslist. This event is for your friends, family, and interested clients. Also while sending out invitations and during the party be sure to include a disclaimer portion. If another MK Director or Consultant's client is attending your event encourage them to shop and support their MK representative.

To successful host a virtual open house you will need to remind your clients and friends of the event. Let's face it people are invited to a ton of Facebook events. If you do not promote your open house, it will be lost in the sea of Facebook events.

Commit yourself to spending time each day checking on your event by welcoming guests and posting. Before the event, you will need to be online and ready to go. Interact with your attendees and common back promptly.

So, you had a successful MK holiday open house! Congratulations! I knew you could do it. But what's next after your holiday open house? Here is what your Heroes at UnitWise recommend following your Christmas MK presentations.

Make a List:

Type up this list on your computer and save it where you will be able to find it each year:
  1. What was the theme of your holiday open house?
  2. What did you enjoy most about your open house?
  3. What items sold the most? What items sold the least?
  4. What did you not like or what didn’t work well?
  5. What gift packages sold well and what didn’t?
  6. Types of gifts bought --- friends, family, or coworker?
  7. What snacks did you provide?
  8. Did people enjoy your snacks and beverages?
  9. How was your timing? 
    1. Day of the week
    2. Time of the month
    3. Did you start early or late?
  10. What marketing strategy did you use?
  11. Was your strategy successful?


This list will help during next year's planning. It will remind you of what you did well and what you wanted to change. It might be a little silly sounding but you will be surprised how much you will forget in a year. So next year look back at your notes and plan an even better party.

Personal Wish List

Do you remember that personal wish list you had your client fill out during your open house? Great! Now is the time to start following up by calling their husbands, daughters, or whomever they suggested. Do it soon before they finish their holiday shopping done.

Private Appointments

Call the clients who could not make it to your open house, and invite them to your home for a private appointment where they can see your MK holiday line. Be sure to have a small display ready for them to view and be prepared to show them trending holiday makeup looks. Once you have established a specific time decide where they would be most comfortable. I highly suggest your home but a nice alternative is a laid-back coffee shop.

Now until December 25th is the biggest holiday sales season of the year. If you have the time consider participating in a gift show or open a booth at your local holiday festival. Things You Need to Hold an Amazing Holiday Open House



Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? The holiday season has already started! This time between Halloween and Christmas can be one of your most profitable time in your MK business. You are offering a personal gift-giving service that is hosted in a cozy environment instead of crowded stores. You client ranges from young - old and women - men. We recommend you take this time to organize an open house. Here are the things you will need to hold an amazing holiday open house!

Invitations:

The perfect time to host your open house is mid-November because it is early enough for your clients to start their holiday shopping. Plus they still have lots of friends and family to still shop for. Be sure to send out an invitation, and then follow up with those you invited by phone. This will give a more personal touch and encourage commitments. Please do not rely on clients just showing up or calling you to RSVP.

Wrapping Station:

In the weeks prior to the event, you will need to pre-wrap lots of different gifts and organize them, so you will know what they contain. Emphasize pre-wrapped gifts to your clients and be sure to set up an area where you can wrap up anything addition or create customized baskets.

For the pre-wrapped presents and baskets be sure to organize and label them like $15, $20, and $25, so it will be easy to find the appropriate gift for teachers, co-workers, and stocking stuffers. In advance let your clients know that these are made up and ready to go.


Holly Jolly Atmosphere:

Your clients and people in general buy with their senses. So pump up the Christmas vibe hard! From how you present your products to the music playing and of course adding the smell of fresh baked cookies. You want your clients to feel they just walked into Christmas and put them into the mood to buy.

I recommend burning a strong holiday fragrance candle to help set the mood. Play low holiday music and have your home fulling decorated for Christmas. Serve a light refreshment like freshly baked Christmas cookie with a holiday punch. Or go the extra mile with warm apple cider. Place your cider in a crock-pot and just add cinnamon!

Your Products:

Knowing what to sell will have a massive impact on the success of your holiday open house. Your MK gift sets under $20 and $25 will sell best, but it is essential to prepare a variety of prices. Have the products within each box displayed out front with samples so they can see and test what intend to buy.

Goody Bags:

Each client/visitor should be given a goody bag on entry. It should include samples, an MK catalog, MK Christmas wishlist, and personal MK wishlist. On the personal wish list ask them casually to submit their phone number and include a separate line such as their husband's number. There is a perfect way to approach him late with your gift services such as the 12 days of Christmas boxes idea. You can include the products she wanted in the boxes giving a personal touch. However, be sure they give you their personal wish list when they leave!!

Consider this. If the MK community posts the same image or the same content, your clients are seeing the same thing multiple times and will scroll by your post. Find themes and topics that will get your clients talking. Expand on ideas and be creative! Make your graphics and chat with the members of your Facebook group, this will help you to build your voice and grow your community.

Know Your Audience

Research your Facebook friends and group to learn what days and times get the best engagement. Take notes over the course of a few weeks and tweak your content and post schedule. Is the best time early in the morning before they go to work or Sunday afternoon?

Get to know your audience and what days/times are best for getting views and traction.
